Mr. Blevins is currently working on a very difficult case for me. I happen to be innocent but a lot of things do not seem to point that way from an outsiders prospective. He has been understanding, open and honest, and helpful since our first conversation. He put more time and work into my case before I ever paid him anything and he has kept that momentum up. I’m not sure what’s going to happen when I go to trial. I’m facing a substantial amount of time. It’s unfortunate but I’m glad to see this side of the justice system. But, I’m glad that I got to see it with somebody like Stephen by my side. I know he has a lot of work to do this summer to prepare for my case. And I have no doubts that it will be done. If I lose at this trial, I would still have nothing but kind things to say about If I lose at this trial, I would still have nothing but kind things to say about Stephen Blevins Law representing me. Wish I could give 10 Stars.

I was referred to Stephen by another lawyer I was working with on a moving traffic violation. Stephen was extremely responsive, reliable, and kind throughout the entire legal process. He always called me with updates, fought for my best interest on my behalf with the court in my absence, and was able to facilitate an outcome that didn't add ANY points to my driving record. He was very fair with his fee's, and for the quality of service he provided I couldn't have asked for a better value. I can't thank him enough for all the hard work he put into my case. I couldn't recommend him more!

Brooke is young, but don't let that fool you! She is very smart and knows about the law. She is sweet and caring, but stands up for her clients. She was able to answer all of my questions and ease all of my concerns. She was always very helpful and returned my phone calls/emails the same day. This was something my previous attorney NEVER did. Brooke is great if you want someone that is going to stay on top of your case, answer your questions, and fight for you. She never made me feel like I was just another client and I appreciated that. If you need a lawyer in Dalton this firm is the best!

Jeff Dean is absolutely one of the best lawyers that we have worked with and hired. He handled our entire case with professionalism and conducted himself in such a wonderful manner, he treated us like we were family, he kept us updated regularly and kept us optimistic, he went above and beyond his job role and he's one you can trust. His manner in the courtroom made a huge impression because he was so well spoken and presented the evidence in such a respectful way and he actually made the other attorney look like a clown. We will definitely use Mr. Dean for anything we may need in the future. He's always kind, greets you with a smile, calm, centered, and knows his stuff. A+ Attorney in our opinion.

Mr. Dean worked over the course of 5 years on my vehicle accident case, through many problems and issues brought about by the defendants attorney. Mr. Dean kept me informed and well educated on all of the issues. He was caring, took a lot of time to listen to any concerns and worries I had, and always had my best interests at heart. He presented a wonderful case to the jury, in a way that was easily understood, no grand standing. He showed the jury the person I am. I will always be grateful to Mr. Dean for his professionalism and kindness, along with his professional staff. He was always available for any questions I had. I couldn't have been in better hands with any other attorney.

You will not be disappointed.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dalton, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
