Pros
1
Highly professional and attentive service
“He handled everything and I got a great outcome. I was pleased at how professional and attention detailed he was”
2
Caring and compassionate approach
“From the first call to the firm they cared for me and my family like we were apart of the family.”
3
Knowledgeable and experienced lawyers
“Roger, Mary, and Andrial are first rate!!! Do not consider allowing anyone else to handle your case!!! They are knowledgeable, realistic, compassionate and very professional.”
4
Excellent communication and responsiveness
“His commercial said that when you call him, you get him not some other attorney. However, that is exactly what happened. When I showed up at their office, another attorney told me they were representing me in my case. After leaving I called Mr. Orlando directly. I will say this - he called me back immediately.”
5
Successful case outcomes
“People are amazed when we tell them our settlement amount and how quickly the case was resolved.”
Cons
1
Lack of continuity in case handling
“After leaving I called Mr. Orlando directly. I will say this - he called me back immediately. He told me that the attorney that was chosen to represent me was more qualified and experienced in my kind of case (workman's comp). However, I could never reach this attorney and they never kept me informed of what was going on.”
2
Delayed communication and updates
“Two weeks later I hadn't heard from him so I emailed him and asked him "If it was just me, or was the company taking a long time to respond". He replied to my email with three words "It's just you". But... he attached a re-written contract submitted by the company and it was dated the same day as we had requested the original changes (which was two weeks earlier). Turns out they had made the requested changes the same day and two weeks later he still hadn't notified me.”

I was recommended to speak with Roger Orlando regarding my complex premises liability injury. He is very passionate toward potential and current clients, easy to speak with and makes the victim feel they matter. He extended his one on one time, to review documents and listen to my concerns, going above and beyond. Along with reviewing documents, he reasoned with compassion, further helping me understand a clearer understanding of the circumstances involved with this injury. For an injured party, whether yourself or your minor loved one, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you do not reach out to Roger Orlando's firm for assistance. The staff is amazing, all very polite and understanding the urgency when calling to request a meeting. Roger wasn't able to sign me as a client, not because he didn't want to or didn't have the knowledge, rather than because of deadlines that have surpassed preventing necessary acts needed. Another important factor to many from areas outside of the city, is parking, the parking is within walking steps to the front door, and easy to access. Please do not make the same mistake I did. Please do NOT delay calling Roger Orlando's firm, the sooner you call, the better.

William allows time for all answers to be thoroughly discussed, no matter what. His professionalism is superb and knowledge of the law is unsurpassed. He has represented our family for over 35 years on many different levels and has always managed to keep our objectives at heart. In addition to personal affairs, William also represented my late husband's business in many respects. William is reliable, honest and will do anything it takes to help our family and I'm sure he will do the same for anyone he represents.

Mikiel helped me through my employment-based immigration process. A huge THANK YOU to all of her efforts, I felt very supported during the whole process! She is very knowledgable, professional, organized, attentive to all the details, and always available to help you. She knows what she is doing and she answers all of your questions and concerns and help you. She provided a GREAT support during this stressful process. She is very responsible and very quick in responding any questions and does her best to help you. I am a very detailed oriented person and usually prefer to get things done myself :) But, working with Mikiel provided me a huge ease of mind that she takes care of everything in the best possible way. I highly recommend her for any immigration work, she is the BEST!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Decatur, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
