Angelyn made FILING for Bankruptcy easy... But the CHOICE to file for Bankruptcy NOT so much... And I don’t think it was ever meant to be.. When I reached out to Angelyn, it was months after the attempts to bandage, fix, prolong and negotiate... it was all tried , and it all led to digging a deeper financial hole... Angelyn was the first and only calming force in the chaos... and the only help in quieting the stress...... assuring me the entire time... “This is not the end but a beginning” I’m glad I listened... After my discharge, a combination of taking her advice and a new learned Credit responsibility .... my credit score has steadily risen and is now 230 points HIGHER. No matter the financial challenges... we’re all different... some may thrive on the calls, letters, disrespect, late fees and the list goes on...and that’s cool.... But if you know you deserve relief and a chance for “your beginning” Angelyn Wright is easily your best choice... Good luck on your new journey...

I hired Mr. Merritt to help after i was involved in a car accident and was unhappy with the Insurance claim I received. Thankfully Alex & his team helped me recoup my loss. I would highly recommend his practice.

With pleasure I write this review for Mr. Alex Merritt, Partner, DeWoskin Law Firm, LLC. Mr. Merritt provided competent, efficient and responsive legal advice and service for the positive resolution and outcome of my case. Should I need legal services in the future (which I hope will not be necessary), Mr. Merritt would be my “first call” – as I know that he would, again, provide expert legal representation.

Alex Merritt has recent experience as an ADA in Dekalb County, so he knows how that system works and what point of view an ADA for Dekalb County will have. He is persistent and persuasive. He got all my charges dropped without a hearing within a month of hiring him, when my previous attorney did not get that done in the 3 months I had him. He also will not make promises he cannot keep, unlike many criminal defense attorneys.

We would personally like to thank Attorney Myrlin Earle for his commitment, integrity, and dedication to our case. On April 28, 2016 our lives changed forever. My husband was hit by a tractor trailer in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially we consulted with a well known prestigious firm in the City. After several months of discovery the firm decided to withdraw as Counsel because they did not see the value in our case. We immediately begin the search for a new firm to represent our case. After our first official meeting with Attorney Earle we knew he would be our Attorney. He saw the value in our case and he was able to get us a comfortable settlement. Going through this process could be very overwhelming but with Attorney Earle he made sure we understood the process and he was there with us every step of the way. If you are looking for an Attorney who will be fully committed to you and your case then you have found the right person, Attorney Myrlin Earle.

Myrlin was invaluable in helping me through a difficult time. After my cycling accident, caused by an uncovered man-made hole on a city road, I suffered a serious shoulder injury. Because of the accident, I needed shoulder surgery. To my amazement, the city did not take responsibility for the uncovered man-made hole in the road. In fact, they just ignored my situation and that’s when Mrylin helped in a big way. Mrylin walked me through the process and made it easy. On the rare occasion when I needed to speak with him after hours, he never made me feel that I was imposing on his personal time. He answered my questions, no matter how trivial and took the time to continually update me on where we stood with the city. Myrlin insight on how the process worked was invaluable. He kept my patience in check and in the end, we won our case. Mr. Earle was responsive, and I really felt that he had my best interests at heart.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Decatur, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
