Horrible law firm! As other people who reviewed this company they copy and paste from other companies forms. STEVEN sent me a contract with ANOTHER COMPANIES NAME ON IT. When I spoke with him on the phone he didn't even listen to what I was needing on my contract or my needs, he just said yeah yeah yeah like he was Rude , UNPROFESSIONAL, NOT CLIENT FOCUSED I honestly can't believe these guys are a law office I guess they didn't think one of their clients Would read what they sent HORRIBLE GO ELSE WHERE! **Update** Steven and I did in fact talk on the phone as i have records proving this. The " Contract " Was a joke with Steven copying and pasting the from another contract. He didnt make it right didnt do anything to help me or my company. I am shocked that a "law office" is this unprofessional. Whats interesting is there are other reviews saying the exact same thing I am complaining about. He refuses to refund or make it right. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Trust me GO ELSEWHERE!

This is the worst firm that I have ever had to deal with. The simple task of getting great customer service and legal assistance is far removed from this one man firm. I paid Steven Becker, $450.00 to form a business for me. Steven Becker was referred to me from Legal Shield. Legal Shield is appalled how this man is less than professional. I paid Steven Becker in September, 2023 and it is now November, 2023 and I have yet to receive my refund for services not provided. I paid in advance and I have not heard from this man once the money has been received. After two weeks of not receiving a response since paying with my credit card, I requested a full refund. I still did not receive a call back. I called his office many times to an answering service answering his calls. This is where I learned that he have no employees. It is a one man company. Why would a one man company pay for an answering service to answer his calls? That says a lot. Steven Becker does not intend to answer his calls because he knows that he is less than reputable, honest and of good character. I have left many messages and he has since emailed me to let me know that he has sent a certified mail with my check. This man is very dishonest. Certified mail does not take two months. Not even snail mail. He finally emailed me with a very nasty email shown below, "I sent your refund to you by certified mail, return receipt requested to the address you provided last week. I am taking no further action on this. Feel free to escalate if you wish. Please remember that under the Letter of Engagement you signed, it is clear that your payment is earned when made and is not refundable. However, I refunded it anyway even though I had no obligation to do so". Steven Becker, Esq. Becker Law, LLC One West Court Square Suite 750 Decatur, Georgia 30030 404.777.1657

My project team and I had some fairly extensive challenges in negotiating and documenting a strategic alliance with the owner of certain complementary technology. Steve worked tirelessly to put together a crystal clear strategic alliance agreement that comprehensively addressed the parties' concerns, rights and responsibilities, particularly in the area of intellectual property ownership. Although Steve is one of the busiest and hardest working professionals I know, he always made time to answer my questions.

Steve handled my service-related legal issues, which included a large number and variety of NDAs, negotiations, and agreements with my most important vendors and major account customers. Not only did Steve master and overcome the most complex and nettlesome legal concerns arising from these transactions, but he brought keen business acumen, a profound understanding of my business needs, and, perhaps most importantly, just plain common sense, in guiding me to successful outcomes with these vendors and customers. Steve always made himself available to answer my questions, or bounce something off of him, no matter how busy he was.

I was referred to Doug Tozzi by a colleague of his. From my initial consultation to the final settlement of my case, Doug was wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend him without hesitation. He is very knowledgeable of the laws and legal procedures. He is very thorough and kept me informed throughout the process. I never had to wonder about the status of my case. He went toe to toe with an older very seasoned attorney and was never intimidated...if fact, he shined. My case was extremely complicated and he sifted through the facts to pull out just what he needed so he could understand the case and help us achieve the best result. We ended up going through mediation and I was very impressed with how skilled he was with helping me understand the process and advocate for our best interest, while not allowing me to be my own stumbling block. I am an attorney and have worked with lots of attorneys and I find Doug's demeanor very refreshing. He is smart, sharp and confident but not conceited. His rates are fair and commensurate with his experience. I highly recommend Doug Tozzi.

Rob was recommended to us by a neighborhood friend as having an excellent reputation in solving cases similar to ours. We recently moved out of state from Georgia. Our moving company "disposed of" half of our household belongings after delivering them to the wrong state. Rob helped us settle a claim that was overwhelming and daunting to us. Not only did he know all of the legal loopholes that needed to be dealt with, he also was readily available to my husband and me via phone calls, emails or text. He listened to me vent and gave us hope as we took on a national moving company. Rob advised us of what to do step by step to achieve the outcome we wanted. We were able to settle for an amount we were very happy with. I highly recommend Rob to anyone in need of an attorney. Job well done!

Robert assisted me with a lawsuit that was brought against me. He helped me through each step of the process, was clear and provided easy to understand advice and direction, and I was able to prove that I was in the right and my case was dismissed. I would recommend Robert and contact him again if I needed legal assistance.

Rob went out of his way to help us with what some may consider a very small problem. This was a single family property line discrepancy issue and to us it felt insurmountable. We had no idea where to begin, but with his help we were able to get our problem resolved. He went with us to the county office to talk with them to find out what needed to be done and then handled all required documentation and correspondence, plus followed up until we had our answer. I would highly recommend Rob to anyone who is going through a similar situation.

If you’re looking for a very capable lawyer, then I highly recommend Mr. Stephen M. Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs has helped me get through a divorce and all the various documents and data required, make my will, living will (Georgia Advance Directive for Healthcare), and Power of Attorney documents. While working with Mr. Gibbs I was very impressed with his analytical skills, judgment, creativity, research and interpersonal skills, logical thinking ability, and communication skills. His ability to explain legal terminology, processes, and requirements to non-legal minds (like mine), enabled me to feel relaxed, and participate fully in the complicated legal processes and requirements. Mr. Gibbs is the lawyer who I speak with first on any legal matter.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Decatur, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
