Judy Sartain was highly recommended to us in the middle of a two-year drawn-out custody proceeding that didn't seem to be working in our favor. As soon as Judy and her team were hired, they worked tirelessly to ensure our legal goals were met and that our Grand babies were afforded the opportunity to have a chance at a life that would allow them to prosper. Legal fees were expensive but worth the outcome! Her team was professional, responsive and prepared! She exceeded my expectations and provided every option to a desired end and success for my Family. Today I rest easy and am postured to allow my Grandbabies to enjoy a good life. A big thanks to Judy, Stephanie and the entire team.

***FRIVOULOUS FEES EXPERTS*** The most expensive, time-consuming, and irresponsible law firm I've ever dealt with. The Forsyth County lawyer I was assigned wasn't even in the same county. Made a lot of sense when I had to go to their office in Marietta. Didn't know what they were doing. The courts were backed up for 9 months till they could process a simple uncontested divorce decree. While in limbo I would keep getting charged even if they talked about my case in a meeting. Not very pleasant. Cost me thousands of dollars over the quoted estimate. Even lying there was a possibility of money back. This law firm doesn't intend to ever give money back. My life was turned upside down in the '08 crash and a bankruptcy lawyer just set the bar way too high for my expectations of ever dealing with a lawyer again. Unfortunate things happen... and very unfortunate I chose Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor too large for their britches, to represent me. I was forced to spend thousands and was warned not to contest erroneous frivolous fees. After it was all done, I lost thousands more at the expense of them working with another law firm to absolve assets in a home sale. Zero help with the title law firm to ensure I was paid my fair share in the divorce settlement. Sat on my earnest money in the sale of the home for almost a whole month earning interest from my money while they decided how to cut my check to me after the County Judge finally signed off on the divorce. DO NOT USE IN FORSYTH COUNTY. This complaint could be soooo much longer.

After being involved in a car accident, Mark Boychuk was recommended to me & after meeting with him, I felt very confident that he was knowledgeable & experienced in car/truck accident cases. Without hesitation, we decided to allow Mark to handle our case. My case took nearly a year to resolve, but Mark was available by text or by phone call throughout the entire process each and every day. I am a very thorough person, and Mark always took the time to reply thoroughly & completely. When the offers began to come in from the insurance company, he was not satisfied until he had negotiated as much as possible for my case. He worked hard & got us a fair amount. When it came time to settle my medical bills, he fought for me tooth & nail & got my medical bills reduced as much as possible. He is worth every dollar I paid him, and I am grateful that I went with Mark Boychuk for my car accident.

I needed a great attorney with energy for my case. Mark jumped in and I received twice what I expected the case was worth. I have actually known Mark for at least a decade and trust his integrity and honesty. I have also sent friends and family members to him. Like me, they like Mark and will always seek him when needed.

Mr. Palmour was very straightforward and got me to see the light. I need the direction and someone to stand up for me in a really bad situation. He found out things I didn't even know about that my ex had hidden from me! Thank you!

Ms Bergeron took on my case after another attorney had done a "less than appropriate" job. She went above and beyond and was impeccable with her documentation. I wish I had found Nicole from the very beginning. I would highly recommend her to anyone! One smart cookie.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gainesville, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
