I was referred to this firm by my attorney who doesn’t do personal injury. They don’t personally know anyone at this firm but saw he “specializes” in the matter I was seeking help with. There were so many red flags it’s ridiculous! I was ignored, lied to and played with since my initial contact June 4, 2024. First, it was Ms. Jillian is looking at your documents. Then I spoke to Mr. Todd finally June 28th who had no idea about me until my attorney called him. After discussing my case, he said he would schedule an appointment for me to come in next week to sign the contract. But then he put April whom I assume is the receptionist, on the phone to tell me he would have to look at my documents again so she didn’t schedule me. I had to keep calling to see if Joseph M. Todd would take my case. Calling all of July and kept being told “Mr. Todd is still out on leave. This man was out the whole month of July and his partner Ms. Jillian was out on maternity leave. He didn’t return until August after speaking with me on June 28th. I was still calling in. Eventually, Mr. Todd left me a voicemail on August 7th at 10:07pm saying “I would be happy to assist you. Please give me a call back.” I retuned his call for 2 days and was able to speak to him the evening of August 8th. What a waste of time! It was only for him to ask “are you suing them or are they suing you?” He didn’t comprehend what my case was about at all. Clearly I was referred to him due to a personal injury case. When we spoke June 28th he seemed like he would be able to assist and on his voicemail to me August 8th. However, he wasn’t sincere at all. And let me add he was coughing, sounded extremely old and seemed to not comprehend what I was saying. Again, telling me he’ll look at my evidence again and let me know. I called the whole month of August multiple times a week. And he was always busy or out of the office. He ignored all of my emails after June 28th, though he had responded before our first time speaking. Now August 29th, finally he has April call me to say he won’t take my case. I figured that much from the games being played. All I wanted was a yes or no that took almost 3 months to get. Sickening! I told my attorney he should never refer anyone else to Joseph Todd. And he apologized for how they did me. He really thought this man was trustworthy. But no Joseph Todd and associates strung me along instead of just saying no months ago. He does not specialize in the practice area I needed, despite what google or his website says. Or maybe he’s just not good at it. Either way he lacks empathy, compassion and simple care for other human beings. I’m certain God protected me from giving any of my money (which I will win) to Joseph Todd. It was a blessing in disguise because someone else who cares about people, who’s honest has taken my case! I give zero stars to this experience. Do better Joseph Todd and staff. Never know who you might need help from in the future.

I was going through the divorce process and she was extremely attentive and always there to put my mind at ease. She was always able to answer my questions in a timely manner. My ex was threatening to fight for full custody and she did everything in her power to make sure it wouldn't happen, i was lucky to have such a hard working, fighter as a lawyer i got full custody and much more. She never failed to stop fighting! Tracy was so polite and informative, i would definitely tell others to hire her. Tracy is worth it especially if you have a battle to go through. Im so grateful!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Jonesboro, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
