Curtis Chronister handled my chapter 7 and it was wonderful and stress free for me. His office is so efficient and you don't feel like you have no idea whats going on with your case. He makes sure that you are well informed and explains everything in detail. I can't thank him and his office staff enough for. Ashley is equally as wonderful

We used Curtis for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. From the minute I called with questions, he took his time explaining our options over the phone without even coming in. He spent at least 45 minutes on the phone with me with no charge and then met with my husband and me for a good hour in the office with no charge. So the 1 hour FREE consultation definitely holds true. It's an embarrassing situation to be in to admit that you’re in such a financial hardship that you can't pay your bills and stay afloat with the everyday expenses. He never once made us feel bad or ashamed or looked down upon. He said his job was to help us and our family get relief from this tremendous burden and that he did. His wife Ashley is the administrator and was always helpful, friendly and courteous. In the midst of our bankruptcy we were still struggling to get back on top of things and were all of the sudden looking at foreclosure because we had become officially 2 months behind on our mortgage. They responded to the situation immediately with concern, caring and assurance that they would do everything they could to help us keep our house. Never once did they say "well you'll have to come with X amount of money before we'll even consider this". And in the end we did keep our house! From the beginning they always made us feel that they were truly there to help us and the money was not of concern. Of course they expect to be paid for their services as anyone else but I have spoken to many attorneys before speaking with them and the first thing out of their mouth was how much we would need to come up with for them to handle our case. Obviously if you're in a position of having to file bankruptcy you don't have hundreds, much less thousands of dollars just laying around! I can't say enough about how grateful we are for their help and even after it was all over they said to call them if we ever need them in the future. You won't find anyone better!

Curtis took my personal injury case and treated my case like I was a family member. He always called me back when I had questions, kept me updated on the status of my case, and fought hard for great results! He and his wife are an amazing duo and know how to get the job done! I would recommend them to any of my friends or family!

We used Attorney Curtis Chronister to help us gain custody of our grandkids and he was so professional and timely in everything that he did. We were well satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend anyone seeking an attorney that listens and not only considers money a factor in each case to please contact Curtis Chronister.

I had the best exprience with Curt, from the day that I met him at Borders Book Store on a Saturday, where he came to meet with me because I couldn't meet with him due to his time of buisness and my work to the day when I recieved my Letter of Discharge in the mail. He did most off the work that other lawyers wanted me to do. He answered all my questions plus more that I never thought or even knew to ask. He really helped me in everyway including the whole money thing, (explaining how other places where bending and breaking the law with payment plans after chapter 7 has been filied). I can still call him today and he will give me lawyer advice on anything or give me a number to a lawyer who practices what im dealing with to help me. He is a great honest man who loves his job not because he has to but because he wants to!

In a jam, calm Graham could not be more accurate!! Graham was professional, prompt, understanding, everything you would want and more than you’d expect a lawyer to be. I didn't feel rushed when talking to him, I felt like he wanted to take the extra time to hear me. Strongly recommend!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Lawrenceville, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
