We've had the misfortune of being on the wrong end of two fairly significant car crashes in the course of a year or so. Ben was recommended to me by someone well respected in the Cobb County judicial circles. He and his staff did not disappoint. By nature, we are not litigious and have never filed a lawsuit before. We explained to Ben we were not out to ruin anyone or seek a windfall. He was respectful of our wishes and we got fair settlements in both injury cases, both times in a very timely fashion.

There simply are not enough positive words to adequately describe the compassion, empathy, honesty, transparency, and professionalism I experienced during my case with the Persons Firm for an auto accident. Ben and his Team (Tricia and Katrina) treated me with the utmost respect, dignity and care. They were always available, just a phone call or an email, and were incredibly thorough in researching and reviewing my case as they pursued justice. Throughout the difficult time, I took comfort in knowing that I was in the hands of a trustworthy, upstanding man of character like Ben, who would help me right the wrong and ultimately find a resolve to the trauma I had endured. Ben really cares about his clients and their well-being as well as their outcome. If ever you find yourself in need of an Attorney that has integrity, and treats you like a part of the family, The Persons Firm will be a blessing as well as the gift of peace that you deserve. Trust me when I say, they make you feel that you are being taken care of, and that you are not just a number, you are a name. As a client, I am completely satisfied. I would definitely recommend Ben Persons and his team. Ben you and your Team are truly outstanding. May God continue to bless you in all that you do. I wish you continued success with your Firm and in life.

Wow, where do I start? I was struck by a drunk driver in Atlanta. I was referred to Ben by a family friend. The only referral I've ever received that was actually worth it. Ben is not a greedy, money hungry egotistical lawyer like most in his field. He REALLY cares about his clients and their well being as well as their outcome. This was my first time in a car accident so I didn't know what to expect. Ben offered great advice and consultation. If I told you how amazing my outcome was BECAUSE BEN REALLY CARED, you wouldn't believe me. If you want a lawyer who does not update you, does not care and isn't playing the cards with the best hands for their clients, then Ben is NOT the attorney for you. He is absolutely amazing! I am so glad I did not go anywhere else. God forbid but if I am ever in another accident (this is Atlanta) I know exactly who to call first. THANK YOU SO MUCH BEN!!!! You were more than a blessing to me than you will ever realize! Lawyers like Ben do not come around often. Truly an honor to have him in the legal arena. Thank you Ben, Tricia and the entire Persons Firm. You all are one in a million.

Having Ben handle my case took the stress and worry off of me. He kept me informed and explained things to me along the way so I actually understood the legal process. I would and have recommended Ben for anyone needing attorney service after being in an accident that involved injury or loss. It was great having someone on my side to handle the complex legalities involving insurance and what my rights were.

"I had the pleasure of having Nicole Westmoreland representing me on a gun-related case in miami Florida, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome—she got the case dismissed! Nicole was extremely professional throughout the entire process and delivered exceptional results. Her communication was always clear, and she kept me informed every step of the way. While her services were on the expensive side, I truly believe you get what you pay for, and Nicole was worth every penny. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a top-tier attorney."

Ms Westmoreland is special compared to most lawyers. What separates her most is the fact she actually cares. Most lawyers separate emotion which makes them just do work and go home and forget it about it. Mrs Westmoreland has passion and uses it to fight for you. Dealing with her taught me that if a lawyer doesn't actually care they are not the right lawyer!!

In Dealing with Nicole I realized I had the wrong lawyers all along. Nicole Westmoreland won my case for me. Whenever I called her she answered. I asked her how was she always available to answer my calls and give me so much attention and she replied she doesn't take every case that comes her way. She said if she is flooded with cases how could she effectively represent anyone. She just wouldn't have the time. She just makes sense !! Thank you for everything attorney Westmoreland !!

Mr. Welch was assigned to me though Cobb County Courts years ago. After helping me with that case, I hired him for several more. From a divorce to a DUI. He is the ONLY attorney I would ever use and have since recommended him to others.

Having Eric Welch represent me in my DUI case was a godsend. I was facing a 3rd DUI and I was very concerned about my future. I have never felt like previous lawyers I spoke to listened to my struggles nor cared until now. He was always readily available to answer all me questions. He took my case extremely seriously and seemingly personal. Eric Welch was able to get the courts to reduce my charge to a Reckless Driving and I couldn’t have been happier with his services. Had I retained any other attorney, I do not think I would have obtained the result that I did. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Welch represented me on a case which most others considered unwinnable. His knowledge and willingness to delve into the subject matter, research it, and ultimately win a victory for his client was gratifying. Add to that a good sense of humor, and you've got excellent representation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Marietta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
