Mr. Staples has been very helpful in my child guardianship/custody case. He listens to what you have to say, explains what's going on, and what all he needs from you. He explains each step of the process, and makes sure you understand what it entails. I've never had a problem with him, he has returned my calls, left me text messages, voice mails, sent emails to me. I can't explain just how helpful, and understanding he has been. Best part is he cares, and he listens to you. You can't go wrong with him.

I can honestly say that my divorce was the messiest one I've personally ever seen. I had no idea what to do, and with severe PTSD from years of abuse, I found communicating with attorneys or even my case very difficult...until Barry. He immediately put me at ease. He took on the toughest parts of my case, he kept me strong, and he fought hard for me. He answers calls, emails, and texts very promptly, and I was never left wondering what was going on. He is an absolute blessing! If you are looking for an attorney who has YOUR best interest at heart....don't hesitate! Call him!

Highly intelligent and does return phone calls and answer emails. He actually cares and gives sound legal advice with no fluff. I had a difficult divorce, and am extremely happy I hired him. He also has helped me after my divorce to get my legal issues in order. I was in a mess, and I'm fine now thanks to Barry.

I didn't have to wait around for days to get a response from Mr Staples. He was very prompt. He didn't make me feel like I was wasting his valuable time, but instead, put me immediately at ease with a conversational tone that dispelled any fears I held about "talking to a lawyer." I wish I didn't have to go through a rather painful, contested settlement and divorce, but I am certainly more confident and comfortable knowing Mr Staples is in my corner.

"I had the pleasure of having Nicole Westmoreland representing me on a gun-related case in miami Florida, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome—she got the case dismissed! Nicole was extremely professional throughout the entire process and delivered exceptional results. Her communication was always clear, and she kept me informed every step of the way. While her services were on the expensive side, I truly believe you get what you pay for, and Nicole was worth every penny. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a top-tier attorney."

Ms Westmoreland is special compared to most lawyers. What separates her most is the fact she actually cares. Most lawyers separate emotion which makes them just do work and go home and forget it about it. Mrs Westmoreland has passion and uses it to fight for you. Dealing with her taught me that if a lawyer doesn't actually care they are not the right lawyer!!

In Dealing with Nicole I realized I had the wrong lawyers all along. Nicole Westmoreland won my case for me. Whenever I called her she answered. I asked her how was she always available to answer my calls and give me so much attention and she replied she doesn't take every case that comes her way. She said if she is flooded with cases how could she effectively represent anyone. She just wouldn't have the time. She just makes sense !! Thank you for everything attorney Westmoreland !!

Mr. Welch was assigned to me though Cobb County Courts years ago. After helping me with that case, I hired him for several more. From a divorce to a DUI. He is the ONLY attorney I would ever use and have since recommended him to others.

Having Eric Welch represent me in my DUI case was a godsend. I was facing a 3rd DUI and I was very concerned about my future. I have never felt like previous lawyers I spoke to listened to my struggles nor cared until now. He was always readily available to answer all me questions. He took my case extremely seriously and seemingly personal. Eric Welch was able to get the courts to reduce my charge to a Reckless Driving and I couldn’t have been happier with his services. Had I retained any other attorney, I do not think I would have obtained the result that I did. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Welch represented me on a case which most others considered unwinnable. His knowledge and willingness to delve into the subject matter, research it, and ultimately win a victory for his client was gratifying. Add to that a good sense of humor, and you've got excellent representation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Marietta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
