In November of 1993, I sustained an accident with a Cadillac while riding my 10-speed bicycle in Atlanta, Georgia, through the Buckhead area at the Haversham & Piedmont Road intersection. While having been taken to Piedmont hospital with multiple serious injuries, a friend of mine contacted an attorney who was their family attorney, a successful litigator, Joseph Weinberg, to look into my case. Even though at the time this attorney was not handling personal injury cases, he chose to take my case, voluntarily stating that he had often had an interest in going into the area of personal injury. I believe Attorney Weinberg had mentioned that my case would be his first foray into this area. In a nutshell, some specifics which may have been difficult, legally for him, were: I carried no health insurance of any kind; had very little income (although working four part-time jobs); and, had never retained legal representation before. While Joseph's handled my situation, and while being the consummate professional, he took quite a personal interest in my case, relating as much as a friend as he was my legal representative, advisor, and counselor. Since the at-fault driver had substantial insurance coverage, Joseph still had to fight hard to acquire an out-of-court settlement with the defendant's insurance company which involved 12 months of negotiations during my health recovery period. Even though it has been quite awhile since this experience occurred [Accident date: 10/23/1993], I feel compelled to say, "Thank you, Joseph, for the great legal service and personal support that you provided at a time when circumstances in my life were at a vulnerable juncture." This review/rating has come about as, today, I was reminiscing with a friend and recalling past important events in my life. Should anyone reading this review be in need of legal assistance, I would more than "highly recommend" them get in touch with Mr. Joseph Weinberg, Esq. ...

Joseph represented me while I went through a custody battle. He was extremely thorough, organized, personable, and got me everything I wanted without having to go to court. In addition, Mr. Weinberg was my rock when getting through the emotional aspects of the battle, which was very unexpected. Specifically he provided me with strategic ways to handle situations; which in the end, helped me tremendously with accepting those things that were now out of my control. A few months after all was settled, an issue come up between my ex and myself where lawyers could very well have been necessary; however, my ex got nervous and asked, " Should I be expecting a call from Mr. Weinberg? You know you got all you got because you had a good lawyer." Needless to say, the subject was resolved rather quickly without the need of lawyers. While Joseph was my gladiator during the legal process, the simple thought of his involvement has been a powerful force in itself. If I ever again need a lawyer, Joseph will be my first and only call.

Mr. Prado represented me on a case where I was being harassed by a shady bill collector. He worked very hard on the case and putin extensive time and effort in my behalf. He kept my updated with the developments and offered sound advice throughout the entire procedure. In the end his fees were more than fair and he helped resolve the matter with the best outcome considering everything wer had to go through. I am comfortable referring future business to him.

Mr. Welch was assigned to me though Cobb County Courts years ago. After helping me with that case, I hired him for several more. From a divorce to a DUI. He is the ONLY attorney I would ever use and have since recommended him to others.

Having Eric Welch represent me in my DUI case was a godsend. I was facing a 3rd DUI and I was very concerned about my future. I have never felt like previous lawyers I spoke to listened to my struggles nor cared until now. He was always readily available to answer all me questions. He took my case extremely seriously and seemingly personal. Eric Welch was able to get the courts to reduce my charge to a Reckless Driving and I couldn’t have been happier with his services. Had I retained any other attorney, I do not think I would have obtained the result that I did. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Welch represented me on a case which most others considered unwinnable. His knowledge and willingness to delve into the subject matter, research it, and ultimately win a victory for his client was gratifying. Add to that a good sense of humor, and you've got excellent representation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Marietta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
