"I had the pleasure of having Nicole Westmoreland representing me on a gun-related case in miami Florida, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome—she got the case dismissed! Nicole was extremely professional throughout the entire process and delivered exceptional results. Her communication was always clear, and she kept me informed every step of the way. While her services were on the expensive side, I truly believe you get what you pay for, and Nicole was worth every penny. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a top-tier attorney."

Ms Westmoreland is special compared to most lawyers. What separates her most is the fact she actually cares. Most lawyers separate emotion which makes them just do work and go home and forget it about it. Mrs Westmoreland has passion and uses it to fight for you. Dealing with her taught me that if a lawyer doesn't actually care they are not the right lawyer!!

In Dealing with Nicole I realized I had the wrong lawyers all along. Nicole Westmoreland won my case for me. Whenever I called her she answered. I asked her how was she always available to answer my calls and give me so much attention and she replied she doesn't take every case that comes her way. She said if she is flooded with cases how could she effectively represent anyone. She just wouldn't have the time. She just makes sense !! Thank you for everything attorney Westmoreland !!

I contacted several attorneys to file a divorce on behalf of my brother who's been out of country, which made it a little complicated. No attorneys answered my emails or calls except Amy. Amy was an empathetic listener and supporter from the beginning until the divorce was finalized. She was very patient and professional through this long and draining process. She informed me every updates and changes via email and phone, and she was always accessible and prompt with any questions that I had. There is no doubt of her professionalism and expertise. The compassion for her clients is what makes her unique and stand out among other attorneys. She absolutely has my highest recommendation and gratitude from all of us.

The issue I came to Amy for was guidance to set up a special needs trust for my sister. It was quite a bit complicated. Another attorney I went to before Amy did not even want to get involved with it. Amy is tenacious and determined to get it right. And she did! She was always responsive to my email questions, usually responding within 24 hours. Amy kept me informed as she researched the issues. She is very thorough and, as I said, it is important to her to get it right. She will do a great job for you.

Amy was very supportive during the entire divorce. She did everything to make sure that my concerns were addressed and that I received any financial restitution that I was entitled to. She answered all of my questions immediately, and made the entire process from beginning to end as simple as possible. Even after the divorce, Amy has insured me that if I ever need anything, that I can contact her.

I've only been using Laurie for about a year and hope to continue to do so for decades to come. Not only is she extremely well versed in all manner of the law, but has enough knowledge to even do quick, expert, competent research, to cover those areas not her specialties. She's already helped us with legal issues, ranging from elder-care and real estate, to intellectual property (trademark) and contracts. We have yet to present her with any legal circumstance she hasn't been able to masterfully control on our behalf. And while this certainly shouldn't be your first concern when in need of legal assistance, let's not forget her reasonable rates. We all know the inflated rates many attorneys charge. Laurie does not. She knows that bad things happen to good people, often with limited funds. As a family woman, she seems to really understand that people aren't made of money. In short, when you're in need of any specialist - medical, education, home services (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.), you want someone who's truly into their trade and is not only great at it, but loves doing it. Laurie's that person. Simply put, she's a law geek.

I have had multiple occasions that I have needed the services of Matthew Schwartz over the past several years, and he has surpassed my expectations in every case. These cases have ranged from contract negotiations with large corporations to debt collection. Mr. Schwartz has been ethical in all matters, dependable, and professional in every regard. His concern for my investments exceeds my own at times, and is refreshing in a legal partner. Additionally, his ability to see the unforeseen problem, such as intellectual property management, has prevented disputes from developing with my business associates. Overall, the best lawyer I have ever worked with.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Marietta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
