The thought of having to file bankruptcy made me sick. My husband and I went into her office feeling horrible! First her secretary was the nicest person to us and our daughter! Then we sat down with Ronna. She made us feel so comfortable and let us know everything would be ok. Her knowledge is unbelievable!! We just closed on our bankruptcy, and it feels great! All thanks to Ronna!! I recommend her to anyone who is considering filling for bankruptcy! She is AMAZING!! Thanks Ronna for EVERYTHING!!!!!

Having to file bankruptcy is not a decision one makes lightly. I did a lot of research prior to selecting a lawyer to represent our case. I also interviewed a handful of lawyers as well. I came to the conclusion that there are generally two "flavors" of bankruptcy lawyers out there. You have the bankruptcy mill firms who churn out bankruptcies left and right. I feel with these firms you tend to be another number and there appears to be no sense of personalization. I also spoke with some lawyers who do a little of everything. I liked that the lawyers I spoke with had a smaller office with a personal feel. However, I was not confident based on my questions that they handled bankruptcy cases enough to give me the best chances of a favorable outcome. Mrs. Woodruff has the best traits from both sides. She has the experience that comes from dedicating her practice to bankruptcy law plus the personal involvement from handling all aspects of her cases from start to finish. We ultimately chose to have Mrs. Woodruff represent us and we are very pleased with her service. She never made us any promises, there is just too much subjectivity with the trustees and judges. She was extremely thorough in preparing our case. She went through everything with a fine toothed comb and had us supply additional information that further supported our case. She was very knowledgeable of the judges and trustees in the district. She clearly laid out our options, gave us the pros and cons of each and let us know what could be around each corner. She is a no nonsense lawyer who is extremely thorough. My husband and I highly recommend her!

When we came to you, we didn't know where to turn and were at wits end. Our bills were piling up; the credit card interest rates were astronomical; we had lien's on our house; my husband's wages were being garnished; and we were starting to be sued by every credit card company. We tried Debt Consolidation for almost a year but the monthly payments were way to high. Then we tried Debt Settlement which ended up being a scam, the company takes all of your money up front and never pays down your credit, we ended up with more lawsuits, and the company ended up being sued for fraudulent activities. I was in tears when I sat down with you to explain our situation, and you quickly made my husband and I feel at ease. You thoroughly explained how everything works, what we needed to do, and made us feel special, telling us that we were not alone with our situation. The process you took us through was very smooth, you walked us through the legal jargon that most people don't understand, and you explained everything in layman's terms. You made the whole process from beginning to end a less painful experience! Thank you SO much for everything you did for us, we really appreciate it, and thank you for helping us start a new chapter in our lives free of debt. Kellie and Rich

Mr. Prado represented me on a case where I was being harassed by a shady bill collector. He worked very hard on the case and putin extensive time and effort in my behalf. He kept my updated with the developments and offered sound advice throughout the entire procedure. In the end his fees were more than fair and he helped resolve the matter with the best outcome considering everything wer had to go through. I am comfortable referring future business to him.

Mr. Welch was assigned to me though Cobb County Courts years ago. After helping me with that case, I hired him for several more. From a divorce to a DUI. He is the ONLY attorney I would ever use and have since recommended him to others.

Having Eric Welch represent me in my DUI case was a godsend. I was facing a 3rd DUI and I was very concerned about my future. I have never felt like previous lawyers I spoke to listened to my struggles nor cared until now. He was always readily available to answer all me questions. He took my case extremely seriously and seemingly personal. Eric Welch was able to get the courts to reduce my charge to a Reckless Driving and I couldn’t have been happier with his services. Had I retained any other attorney, I do not think I would have obtained the result that I did. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Welch represented me on a case which most others considered unwinnable. His knowledge and willingness to delve into the subject matter, research it, and ultimately win a victory for his client was gratifying. Add to that a good sense of humor, and you've got excellent representation.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Marietta, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
