I had a consultation with Andria a few weeks ago. Connected with her through a company I got through my job. I appreciated her time and the legal advice she offered. Unfortunately her comments about my life were unacceptable. I asked for a professional opinion on my custody case. I know I’m not unreasonable and she mentioned she could see that my ex just wants to attempt to take custody to try to hurt me. The comment “well you had a baby with him” was unnecessary. Anyone who has ever been in a custody battle knows… you didn’t expect certain behaviors but obviously it’s impossible to turn back the hands of time. I guess she considered it being real, but honestly it was just ignorant. Her advice didn’t really make sense to me, I wanted what was best for my child. No one wanted to kick my daughter’s dad out her life and I felt like she stereotyped me but assuming that. But I needed a lawyer that understood that and any one, male or female, that purposely miscommunicates about their child isn’t a good fit. You hurt the child at the end of the day. No one is the same. She stereotyped my wants. I needed someone who was going to understand custody battles are suppose to be about the child and NOT mom vs dad. Though I appreciated her time, she’s not the lawyer for me. Idk if all the bad reviews on here are fake.

I had a great experience with attorney Andrea Boyd. At first, when I called in January, it was hard to reach someone and was advised by the staff that they were fully booked until a few months later. I then called in February and attorney Boyd answered the call and took my case on the spot. Very professional and at the end I received a positive outcome in my case. Attorney Boyd was quick to response and I really enjoyed their online portal. I would highly recommend Attorney Andrea Boyd. Thank you!

I reached out to Attorney Boyd's office on November 15, 2023, to discuss adopting my stepchildren, as her services are covered by my employer-provided legal plan. Initially, I was informed by her paralegal, Andrea R., that Attorney Boyd could not assist me until January, but a consultation could be arranged before then. We had our consultation on December 8, 2023, which was productive; Attorney Boyd outlined what I could expect from the process, and we agreed on the steps forward—including me providing completed paperwork for her office to file, with me covering the filing fees. However, as of February 22, 2024, despite fulfilling my obligations and submitting all required documents promptly, my case has seen no progress. Communication has been a significant issue; I've attempted to use the recommended 'mycase' platform and made several phone calls, often only being able to leave messages that are slowly returned by Andrea. Despite my clear request for the paperwork to be filed and for an invoice to be issued, I've received no response, and my access to 'mycase' has recently been revoked. This lack of communication and action is deeply frustrating and falls short of what one would expect from a legal professional. If my case was not a priority due to the financials involved with my legal plan, it would have been preferable to be informed upfront rather than being left in this prolonged state of inaction. This experience has forced me to seek legal assistance elsewhere, echoing the sentiment of another reviewer: "don't waste your time."

Attorney Boyd was on point. She gathered all pertinent information and did her research with my divorce case. She keep me informed and knowledgeable about my case. She was ready when it came to the trial. She was so prepared that we ended on a settlement as opposed to a trial. She is awesome!!!! I will recommend Attorney Boyd to anyone in Henry County that is seeking a divorce. Great Job Attorney Boyd!!!

I was in the middle of a terrible litigation storm with my sons father and it seemed like it would never end. We had been going back and forth to court for well over a year and I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had been through over 4 attorneys...yes, I said 4!!! In February of 2018 a family friend suggested I meet with Mr.Schrade to see what options there were for me to move forward and possibly even wrap up the litigation altogether. I was nervous and I assumed Mr. Schrade would be like all the others but boy was I wrong. For started Mr. Schrade is an extremely kind and respectful person. Every attorney I had prior was somewhat rude or too aggressive towards me when I asked questions or for undertaking. Mr.Schrade was the total opposite... it makes a huge difference when someone treats you like a person instead of job or simply another case number. Mr. Schrade was able to close a case that had been lingering for over two years in just 2 short months! It is the best feeling in the world knowing that someone can no longer hold the threat of taking custody over your head. Mr. Schrade was an angel towards me but a fighter in the courtroom. After spending over $8,000 on different attorneys and feeling like I was wasting time and money, I now know who to choose if I ever find myself in a familiar situation.

This is the second time I’ve used Mr. Schrade’s services. The first was for a civil matter, which he negotiated expertly to my benefit, and more recently for a minor criminal matter. From our first meeting until the disposition of my case, Mr. Schrade demonstrated complete professionalism and a thorough determination to have my case either dismissed or to proceed with as little damage to me as possible. He knows the legal system expertly, and worked diligently to strategize, present a strong defense, and negotiate a fair penalty. Mr. Schrade made to feel confident but realistic about potential outcomes and always answered my questions and addressed my concerns promptly. Simply put, Mr. Schrade showed a commitment to my case that I likely would not have received from most attorneys, and as a result, I received what I believe is the best possible outcomes in both instances. Mr. Schrade is incredibly talented and effective and I highly recommend him to anyone in need of an attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of McDonough, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
