Hired Martin on two separate occasions regarding family law matters - divorce and child custody matter. The initial matter went extremely well and both parties found a workable solution. Unfortunately, sometime after resolving initial matter, I had to re-engage Martin regarding an adjustment in custody arrangements. And consistently provided efficient and sage advice on all matters. I strongly recommend. One must also consider he works diligently and efficiently with his support team. Thus, his fees are reasonable and holistically worth every penny.

Martin without a doubt is the most impressive attorney that I have ever met. I separated from the military several years back, and had a very difficult time adjusting to civilian life. I had issues with DUI, reckless driving and speeding. Martin not only helped me with my legal matters but completely eliminated them. Not to say I wasn't accountable for my actions, but I was represented in such a a way that I felt confident leaving the courtroom with my head held high. I have turned to Martin several times since my initial consult and he has made me feel as if I am his only client. Everyone in his office was more than helpful in my time of trouble. I would recommend Martin, and anyone at Charlton & Glover, for all of your legal needs.

After paying a 10k retainer for my divorce, this attorney did nothing for me. I caught him in several lies and eventually had to fire him. I couldnt help but to think that somehow this was my fault, because, after all, HE is the legal professional, and knows what he is doing. Right? Wrong! I picked up my "file" from his office and took it to my new attorney. She said, "This is it???? Where is everything???" I had no idea how bad it was until I saw my new attorney go to work. She handled my case in a matter of WEEKS, not months or years, and earned every penny of her retainer. She actually got me more than what I thought I would get. After mediation, the opposing counsel even remarked that this attorney did absolutely nothing for me. I think it is only fair to end this review on a positive note. This attorney did refund a small amount of my money after I complained. Maybe he knew deep down that he fell short.

I cannot recommend Melanie enough. From the very first consultation, she impressed me with her professionalism, deep knowledge, and a no-nonsense approach to handling my case. She also made me instantly feel better after talking to her. She set realistic expectations, explaining the possible outcomes clearly and ensuring I fully understood every step of the process. She delivered real results. She approached my case with precision and care, leaving no stone unturned. Thanks to her expertise, the outcome far exceeded my expectations—something I am truly grateful for. Every penny spent on her services was absolutely worth it—and then some. If you’re looking for someone who is not only highly competent but also genuinely invested in her clients’ success, run to Melanie Ellwanger's office. Actually maybe call first.

One of the best decisions of my life was to hire Melanie Elwanger to represent me. I was charged with DUI drugs in Forsyth County. Due to her knowledge of the law and her uncanny ability to gain favor she got the charge dismissed. I am forever grateful. Simply put she is amazing. I highly recommend her if you're in any kind of trouble with a traffic situation.

Wally is very professional and knowledgeable in his field. I have consulted with Wally on a few occasions regarding trust management, including trust management in the bankruptcy context. I have seen him work tirelessly to achieve a positive outcome for a client. I also had the opportunity to hear Wally present on the attributes of the Limited Liability Company in Georgia, and I was very impressed at his depth of knowledge, extent of research and professionalism.

A while back, I gave my credit card number to a charlatan for a supposed business opportunity. I immediately realized my error, but this man would not cancel the transaction. He had worked this system for quite some time and knew the tricks to abuse the consumer. So, even the credit card company could not help me to recover my funds. Wally stepped in and looked meticulously at the case. He applied extensive knowledge, understanding, and strategy and soon had the swindler begging to settle. Even though this is a simplified version of how Wally helped me, he utillized expertise and professional skill to recover my money with an efficiency that caused me the least possible stress. I will always go to Wally first when I need legal advice. I first went to him because I trusted him as a person. Having worked with him on this case, I found that my instincts were correct. He is the real deal, and he takes seriously his clients' rights and needs.

Amazing, Wally is so knowledgeable and thorough. He is prompt, organized, intelligent, and really personable. I am currently under his advisement and have no regrets. I have been gouged financially by an attorney in the past and know that Wally has integrity and is fair priced for the awesome services that he provides. I have recommended him and will continue to do so. Sara p.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Roswell, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
