Our tenant declared bankruptcy, which halted our eviction. There was another complication in this legal matter. The tenant's wife gave us a bad check for rent and we had started criminal charges against her. Grant returned our first phone call within one hour. He answered a several questions thoroughly, before we even engaged him as our attorney. During the conversation, we realized that Grant was an expert in this area of the law. We paid him that day, he filed our motion the next day. He kept us informed throughout the process. The process proceeded exactly as he told explained in the initial conversation. I feel that Grant's advice regarding the bad check saved us from a large fine from the bankruptcy judge. Grant provides excellent value for his fee. I have already recommended him to another landlord.

I'm glad I knew Grant! We bought a house with problems that the former owners didn't disclose. Grant litigated the case with motions and depositions and ended up getting us a great settlement. He was knowledgeable, efficient, and communicated with us all the time. Great, honest lawyer.

Attorney Grant Brim is one of the most professional and personable attorneys I have ever worked with in the legal profession. As a former lawyer, I have had the pleasure, and displeasure, of working with and for hundreds of attorneys and judges. Grant Brim knows the law and Grant Brim knows people. He was able to take our cases and guide us through the legal process to an extremely fair resolution that was better than expected. Grant always made himself available for our seemingly-endless questions for which he always had answers. He was patient, he was calm, he was intelligent and he was fierce. Although we hope never to go through a similar situation again, we strongly recommend Grant Brim for any legal advice, case or challenge. He is a great lawyer and an even better human being.

When my business partner decided to shut me out of the business and remove me from all the business accounts, I didn't know what to do. Mr. Brim filed suit on my behalf and had the case sent to mediation. During the mediation, Mr. Brim fought for me and we were able to settle the case without me having to spend tons of money on more court costs and attorney's fees. I am very happy with the service I received and would recommend Mr. Brim's firm to anyone who wants a great lawyer. The fact that he really worked to settle the case says a lot about what kind of attorney and person he is. This is the first attorney I've had to hire and I was afraid I was going to get taken advantage of, but Mr. Brim didn't do that. He was a pleasure to deal with!

My husband and I hired Grant to handle our chapter 7 bankruptcy case. We were in the middle of a huge lawsuit, which made things even more stressful. Grant not only dealt the bankruptcy; he also dealt the opposing attorney in the lawsuit. Once we hired him, our lives got a lot easier. He is intelligent, honest, ethical, and responsive. Although bankruptcy is not something anyone would want to experience, his representation made the process much easier.

I have had business relations with Nancy Liu for a number for years and had many business dealings with her. I wouldn’t think of using any other firm even though I have had other attorneys approach me for my business. Put simply, place your file with Nancy and rest peacefully – she has your back. Nancy is meticulous, thorough, attentive to detail and very protective of her client’s interests. One closing I brought to her involved multiple possible claims to ownership, Nancy took the precaution to protect my interest from any claims on the property from anyone past, present or future. That’s an example of the extra work that she does, that very few other attorneys will do nowadays (there’s not a lot of money for them in closing work). She is also very responsive - when working your file you will find Nancy very easy to reach by phone or email no matter how busy she is. She goes well beyond the standard service one expects from an attorney – including working on your file until wee hours to ensure timelines are met and any and all issues are addressed, but not billing for those overtime hours. Although it’s possible she can be perceived as outspoken, curt or a bit aggressive – when dealing with those who are not her clients or are challenging her clients. But to me those are positive traits in an attorney, not negatives. She is a consummate professional who represents her clients to the utmost. The fact that Nancy doesn’t take guff or suffer fools lightly is a strength in my books.

Melanie represented me for a case in Alpharetta municipal court. I would say she is the best attorney I have ever had. And I have had quite a few. She was still able to have my charges reduced to Reckless Driving in a court that I have appeared in a couple times before while still on probation. Excellent attorney and her payment plan is convenient and affordable compared to many others.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Roswell, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
