My experience was the same as the others on here. I filed a Grievance with the GA State Bar Association for his unethical behavior. You need to do the same. Attorneys like him earn so much and when they do not adhere to basic standards of professional ethics, it is a severe damage to families! From what I'm reading here, this is a systemic approach. Divorce is a difficult situation to go through and you need an attorney who is willing to guide, protect and represent you. Unfortunately, Eric Shapiro is not that attorney. I received no guidance at all. I was the major breadwinner and caretaker of an autistic son. I needed Mr. Shapiro to make sure that I made the best decisions for myself and my son that were financially sound and, to also help with me obtaining guardianship for my son. Here are the problems I encountered. Mr. Shapiro's office staff turned over several times in the 6 - 7months I dealt with him. I had to make several calls to contact anyone and sometimes would not receive a call back for days. Mr. Shapiro waited til the last minute to obtain all the documents from family members for guardianship, so then had to rush to get everything submitted to the court and then wanted to charge me the extra fees because his delay. During the guardianship, the questions he asked by ex were not relevant. I could have done this myself and saved myself a lot of money. When going through a divorce, you are not thinking clearly and he should have instructed me to speak to my accountant and financial advisor before mediation and to take time to calming write down everything I would need. Instead, during mediation, he made no suggestions and even wrote up a 5 year alimony payment for my ex! I felt he rushed my case and was just thinking of moving on to the next case and payments. I would not recommend this attorney.

Emailed and called constantly asking for more money. Rarely emailed or called with actual usable info regarding our case. His invoices actually had items we ALREADY paid for. He lost our case, didn't bother to present even half the evidence we gathered for the case. Result: my girlfriend lost FULL CUSTODY of her daughter to her ex husband! She has NO negative marks against her...her ex does. It takes a special lawyer to get a 4 year old girl taken away from her mother. Eric managed to get it done. THEN HE ASKED FOR $5000 MORE AFTER WE LOST CUSTODY! Do NOT hire this guy. He's tragic.

Check with the Georgia Bar Association discipline taken against this guy, then find someone else.
