Tom Barton and his firm did a great job in my case. They were upfront and honest about all possible outcomes. They also gave me tips on what to do while waiting for the trial day to come, which helped me significantly. 10/10 recommend. They are great people who give a great service.

The email response was quick, and the precloser and postclosers are friendly. However, the closing experience is awful. I have now done two closings with McMichael & Gray, one in Carrollton and one in Stockbridge, and I would not choose to do another closing here. The wait time is long and the closing took over 3 hours, mostly due to the fact that checks have to come from the Alpharetta office apparently. And then for the second closing on another day, they were supposed to overnight a check to me and instead sent it to the wrong address over an hour and half drive from me. It also seemed like the closing attorney had never looked at the contracts before. Unpleasant experience as a realtor representing clients.

I contacted Mary after jacking around with a divorce process that had lasted way too long not involving a lawyer on my part. When the delays became too excessive, I reached out to her to help me get everything finalized. She listened very carefully to my personal concerns of being amicable with my former spouse and then gave me her advice, which I took most of the time. Ultimately, It worked out as well as possible. Not sure how to verbalize how valuable she was. No divorce is easy, but if you want someone on your side that will lay it on the line for you what the situation is and respect your opinion, Mary is the peron for you. C. Peterson

I retained Mary in 2013 for a complicated Divorce Action where there were Child Custody, Child Support, and Alimony Issues involved. From the moment we met it was obvious to me that I made the right choice. Not only is Mary a Great Lawyer, she is Kind, ,Understanding, and Compassionate with those she represents. She is a Tough, Confident, and Skilled Lawyer that supports and represents her Clients in a Professional manner at all times. Mary's abundant skills in the courtroom setting made the difference in how my case was resolved at the time. Mary also represented me in a Contempt of Divorce Decree Suit which ended up 150% in my favor due to her direct involvement by strategically presenting the relevant facts and issues therefore, countering and destroying the opposing Attorney. Her Staff is Excellent and I will forever be grateful to Mary House and her entire team of Professionals.

After nearly 30 years of marriage, my wife and I decided to divorce. It was a very difficult decision for the both of us. I thought our divorce would be uncontested and over quickly but it became contested. I researched everything I could find concerning divorce. What to look for in a Divorce Attorney, 10 Things to Do Before Filing for Divorce, 10 Things Not to Do Before You Divorce, What Does Divorce Cost and on and on. It’s overwhelming. The 1st thing I did was take the advice of one article about steps to take to find a good divorce attorney. I interviewed 5 different lawyers, in person, in the area. The only attorney that passed all of the criteria was Mary House. First, you will notice that Mary is very thorough. She takes the time to explain the process in lay person terms. She described the steps in detail what I would need to do so there are no surprises. Second, she listens. She listened to my side of the story and took the time to determine what would be the best way to represent me. I could convey specifics about what I wanted and Mary would explain what I could expect from the results. Third, communication. Mary IS the best communicator. As soon as she had any information, I knew about it. Whether through email or phone call, I was current with everything going on. Fourth, determination. Mary does her best to get the divorce finalized as quickly as possible and genuinely concerned to reduce costs as much as possible. She is quick to respond to the opposing attorneys. She keeps correspondence precise and to the point. At times it seemed I was her only client. She always got back to my questions/requests in a timely manner. Fifth, Compassion. Mary has the compassion you want in the very best attorney. She was truly dedicated to the outcome of my case and made every effort to make sure I was completely satisfied with the outcome. Sixth, Experience. When you talk to Mary, it is obvious she has seen it all and her experience is a testament to that. I won’t list it here but you can look up Mary’s extensive credentials online. I’ve only commented on some of the points I feel that were important to me. I could continue with more but I think you get the point. If I had to do it all over again, I would get Mary to represent me. Mary, Thank you and Tammy for making this difficult process tolerable. Thank you for your compassion and expertise. I would very highly recommend your services to anyone. Chris K.

I speak from experience and the heart when I recommend Ms. Nicolle Ramsey as your attorney. The main reason and the only reason you should need is that she cares deeply and personally for all of her clients. If you are looking for an outstanding defense attorney, PLEASE CONSIDER Ms. Ramsey as she will go way above and beyond the extra mile to provide a vigorous and totally thorough defense in your favor. Like many of you who are reading this, I recently found myself in a horrible situation being charged with things that were simply not true. I obviously realized that I needed an attorney and hired the wrong one initially. I changed to Ms. Ramsey as I remembered that she had defended a student of mine who had defended himself in a fight after one of the high school classes I taught. He had defended himself, but the court was trying to just convict both people and force him to many penalties for a year. I was called as a witness on his behalf and saw how she cared for this young man and even though he did not have a lot of money, provided him with the best defense possible which ultimately found him not guilty. Through my current ordeal, she has maintained contact continuously and listened profoundly to all of my concerns and has showed deep concern for my wellbeing. Ms. Ramsey has taken the time to contact all witnesses involved personally. In addition, she has contacted the prosecutor twice and has planned a face-to-face meeting next month on my behalf. Having been through the incorrigible experience with the former attorney, I can tell you that all attorneys definitely will not provide the hard work that Ms. Ramsey puts into a case. Many will just attempt to plead your case and take your money in the process. Furthermore, Ms. Ramsey knowing that the former attorney basically took my money without providing an adequate defense, agreed to work with me on payment. What attorney will do this? Not many. I could go on and on regarding this professional, but will save you time by restating the most important part of my review from the beginning; “Ms. Ramsey cares about you personally and will fight for your defense”. This was all that I needed to know and rest easy knowing she is in my corner.

Mrs.Ramsey has handled 3 cases for me and what I consider the most important quality she has is that she truly cares about each person. Every case she has handled has ended in my favor. She researches things greatly and will keep you informed every step of the way. I'm sure she treats all her clients the same but to me I felt like I was her only client. My nickname for her is my little bulldog!!!

Attorney Gantt was very professional and I am very pleased with her work. She handled both my divorce and Loan modification. My ex was trying to get over, and Ms. Gantt left no table unturned. She made sure I got what I deserved. All I wanted is to play fair, Attorney Gantt made sure that happened.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Stockbridge, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
