Mr. Beasley was very professional and competent, albeit unable to take my case due to an overload of cases.

John came highly recommended by a family member and fellow attorney. Not only did he meet my expectations, he exceeded them from start to finish. It was clear from our first meeting that John is an expert in his field. My case was complex with many components. John thoroughly addressed and explained each component at a level that I could understand. He was friendly, patient, and well-spoken. I was most impressed with John's consistent and timely communication. He responded quickly to any questions that I had and kept me informed of all events as they occurred. I felt comfortable reaching out to John if I had any question and was always pleased with the timeliness and outcomes of our communications. Overall John helped me reach a favorable outcome and I was very satisfied with his services. He came highly recommended to me by a person I trust and after working with him I would be happy to recommend his services if given the chance. I have the utmost respect for John as a person and an abundance of confidence in his ability as an attorney.

My husband had a work discrimination case he consulted with John Beasley's law office about. It did not get picked up by John, but not only that, there was not a good reason provided. (note: we had no problem getting another excellent lawyer to take it on, go figure). I also wanted to add that John's paralegal was not very professional and borderline plain unfriendly. I would definitely not consult with this lawyer's office again.

John Beasley is an excellent attorney. I hired him twice and both times I was happy with how he represented me. In 2003, Mr. Beasley assisted me in the preparation of a brief I submitted to the EEOC in support of a gender discrimination claim against my employer. The EEOC ruled in my favor and a year later, I was promoted. Mr. Beasley's knowledge of the law and the process, as well as his excellent command of written language, were invaluable to me in this effort. In 2014, I was placed on administrative leave because I challenged some statements made by a visiting author during a public presentation. My employer tried to bully me into retiring, so I hired Mr. Beasley again to represent me in trying to save my job. I was ultimately unsuccessful in that effort, but Mr. Beasley was able to arrange mediation and secure me a reasonable settlement. I was impressed with his knowledge of judgments related to employment law and first amendment cases. In a conference call with two of my colleagues and me, he cited specific case law off the top of his head and answered all our questions fully, without hesitation. His ability to think on his feet (so to speak) and his command of spoken language were remarkable and, in my opinion, are essential skills for being an effective attorney. Mr. Beasley gave me sound and honest advice regarding my options, including how much each one might cost and how long each might take to pursue to resolution. I chose the option that brought the fastest closure to this nightmarish experience because I didn't have the stomach to take the case further. I was suffering from a near total paralysis in everything related to my situation and I was thankful that I could depend on Mr. Beasley to respond thoughtfully to all my questions and concerns and represent me in an intelligent and professional manner. While I did not achieve my goal of returning to work, I was completely satisfied with Mr. Beasley’s efforts in my case.

I could not have been more pleased with the guidance I received from John Beasley. His advice was completely on target. He calmly and expertly guided me through a process that lasted several months, to a very satisfactory resolution. His consultation was just what I needed at every step along the way. He patiently and thoroughly explained all points and choices to me. John was engaging and easy to work with at all times. He certainly provided very solid counsel. I recommend John very highly.

After the recent death of my Mother, Rich Connelly and office manager Shona Stapp assisted me in probating my Mother's will and settling her Estate. I would highly recommend this team if you find yourself in need of a lawyer. They are knowledgeable, professional, patient and compassionate. With decades of experience, they can help you navigate the complicated tasks that arise after the death of a loved one.

It is difficult to find the appropriate words to explain how absolutely wonderful of an attorney that this man is. He has all the qualities of the perfect attorney. (There is such a thing at this firm!) He is very responsive, understanding, skilled at research and listening. His knowledge of the law and communication skills are superb. Even with all that, there is so much more. Rich is kind and compassionate. He is humble and caring. All of those things not only make him an excellent attorney, they also make him an amazing person that you want to have your back during difficult and unstable times in your life. He was all of that and more for me when I was injured at work. From the hospital to rehabs and all the care thereafter, he was there. You can trust him to handle your case while you handle your well-being and focus on healing. He never failed to continuously and sincerely check in with me to see how I was doing. He was encouraging at many times when I needed it the most. My injury was life changing. It was a time that I felt scared and vulnerable, but with having an attorney like this, my case was in excellent hands. He met and exceeded any expectation I had. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome of my case and you will be too!

Oscar is a phenomenal family law attorney. He represented my in a case in which numerous errors by opposing counsel were found to be incorrect or unfounded. Oscar works diligently and most importantly, communicates effectively and in a timely manner. I hired an attorney, but walked away with a friend. His demeanor and presence is calming, but at the same time, he is a true craftsman at his trade. I hope I don’t have to have a family lawyer in the future, but if I do, there is only one name I will go to… Oscar Gertsch.

After several weeks of hard, meticulous well organized negotiations he had delivered a result as he proposed in the beginning. I am so happy that my wife found Oscar and he was able to take the case on a bit of short notice as well. Seems he is ready to take on any legal challenges put in his path with pride. Thank you Oscar & staff for your incredible efforts with my case !

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Watkinsville, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
