I was arrested in Cobb county on December 23rd and spent a total of 90 days incarcerated after writing Mr Forbes three letters, many text messages, had the circuit defender's office email him and talk to him one time in which he did not recall any of the conversation. I finally bailed out of jail which was my only option since he wouldn't visit me and I still have yet to speak to him. I then requested new representation which is now set me back even further so I would definitely not retain this attorney for any legal matter.

Two, yes two years ago I gave John Forbes $1400.00 to help with me getting visitation with my granddaughter in GA. At first he was attentive with phone calls only or text. Seven months latter, still no court date or phone calls I contact him and ask what can I do to expedite my case and I asked if he needed more money. I live in FL so he gave me his account number and I went down and deposited $500.00 more into his account. Since then I was told I had a court case, took time off from work, driving to Atlanta for my court date he text me and said that it was postponed and he would advise me when it was rescheduled. That call never happened, I told him this was ridiculous and I wanted my money back. Imagine my surprise when he refunded me $300.00, for what! I spoke with my family and they said to ask him to continue with the case due to him being familiar with the case and keeping the $1100.00 for whatever little thing he did. Then came covid.... He text me once to say he had covid and would get with me once he was over it. That was October 2020. I text him (he didn't answer his phone) on 11/23/2020 I text him that I was trying to be patient but was getting hard to do, no response. I text him again (still not answering phone)Feb 8, 2021 Asking if this was hi normal business practice, still no response. I text him again 3/15/2021 still no response. On March 17,2021 I text him one last time. At no point did I get any response from him, I even checked obituaries to make sure he did not succumb to covid and nope he did not. Still to this day 5/3/2021 I have yet to hear from him, I basically flushed 1900.00 down the drain for something as simple as getting to see my granddaughter who lives with her other grandparents. Since then I have on my own addressed the other grandparents, we pick my granddaughter up and go off for a few hours with no help from John Forbes. He talks a good game but a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Top review highlights

Pros
1
Effective representation in court, resulting in favorable outcomes for clients
“You really impressed me with how much you did and how hard you work as a court appointed attorney! I will be eternally grateful and hope one day I can pay you back with what you did for me!”
2
Knowledgeable and skilled in handling complex legal matters
“John deftly charted my course through three different courts, and secured an outcome which allowed me to avoid jail and restore my driving privileges within four months of my cases being adjudicated.”
3
Dedicated and caring towards clients' best interests
“Mr. Forbes has gone above and beyond to represent me effectively and has had my best interest in mind the entire time.”
Cons
1
Poor communication and responsiveness, failing to keep clients updated on their cases
“Since then I was told I had a court case, took time off from work, driving to Atlanta for my court date he text me and said that it was postponed and he would advise me when it was rescheduled. That call never happened.”
2
Lack of follow-through, not completing promised tasks or services
“We paid up front for a trust to be formed for a family member July 2012. With all documents in hand his response to the question of when the work would be completed was soon. Approximately two months later we have no idea of what work product if any has been completed.”
3
Concerns about billing practices and potential overcharging
“I literally paid $1000.00 to postpone the case six months (denying me going home), only to go to court to be educated on the fact that because of my previous infractions with the law I was ineligible for the plead he was 'trying' to accomplish for me. So I had to accept the plead wasting six months.”

I needed some information for my co-worker for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, though he's not in Atlanta, Georgia. It was for a guy in Fl, but Mae gave me let me know exactly how he should handle it. He was able to avoid foreclosure and having his wages garnished.

I think Mae Hartman used to work in Canton, Ga, but just recently moved her office to Woodstock, Ga. She's the best bankruptcy lawyer in Cherokee county. She always answers my calls and saved me from complete financial melt down. Go ahead and call, I bet you she picks up by the third ring!

I contacted her for some legal advice and she was super helpful. I didnt up needing to hire an attorney. She actually told me what I needed to do to handle a specific situation. I would recommend Natalie to anyone needing legal help. If she can't help she won't try to sell you. Very respectful as well.

I have used Natalie's legal services since Feb 2019 and still so today. Highly recommend you call to discuss your needs. At some point in your life you will most likely need a lawyer's services and where do you go searching - the internet of course as most of us don't want share our need with friends/family so that's where the confusing part begins - who to select, who to trust, who can we afford, do we really need them. Some of us will see that big attorney commercial and call and become a billable number - been there done that before as well. Who do you think is paying for that commercial and big office and big staff - you are! I was referred to Natalie by 2 separate friends (not in the same friend group who I actually shared my situation with). I am glad I called and followed their recommendation. She is a small boutique attorney that takes her time to help and guide you through your legal needs. You want just be another client, you will be her client. You may make a new friend in the process. She takes each case and personally involves herself to fight the fight for your legal rights. She specializes in many areas of family law - divorce, wills, guardianship, power of attorney, trusts, probate, child custody, special needs (is a parent to special needs child). She not only knows the law but knows how to use the law in the courtroom to help your case. She gives you her cell number, who does that? She does! She will get back to you as her schedule and your schedule allows days/nights/weekends/holidays if need be. Who does that? Natalie does that. While no attorney can specialize in every field of law, she knows if she can help you or if she needs to refer you to her well known attorney associates that perhaps would be better fitted for your needs. We are all human with emotions and financial/non-financial needs - chances are she has also experienced first-hand in her own life what you may be going through now. Don't hesitate any longer - give her a call, tell her Big E recommended her.

Divorce is never fun but Natalie made the experience easy and quick. She answered all my questions even though I thought some of them were stupid she never made me feel inferior, even when I had to ask her twice. Since I don’t plan on getting divorced again I can’t say I would use her again, LOL, but I would definitely recommend her to any of my close friends.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Woodstock, Georgia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
