Selecting Alethea K. Rebman, Attorney at Law is the right choice. Your divorce attorney can significantly affect the outcome of your case and the overall experience during this challenging process. Alethea is known for providing dedicated legal representation, she offers extensive tax & retirement knowledge and experience in family law, aiming to resolve cases efficiently for the best possible outcome. Alethea's deposition uncovered diverted funds, which I had no idea my spouse was hiding. She worked tirelessly on all the details, including the appraisal on my home. My spouse had paid an appraiser to overvalue our property in order to lessen my share of the assets. She was so compassionate with my financial situation. I'm a realtor, so I paid her only when I made a sale, which removed a lot of stress from my life. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be where I am today. She has become a TRUSTED friend and advisor. If you want a fair settlement, she will fight for you, her ethics are stellar.

Alethea Rebman is simply the best attorney ever. She's responsive and fierce and patient and specific, exactly the kind of person you'd want in your corner. She assisted my fiance with a motion for post-decree relief after his divorce, and we will absolutely not hesitate to hire her if we have need of her services in the future. What a great advocate.

I was searching for an attorney for a post divorce issue when Alethea Rebman was highly recommended to me by a friend. My original attorney had proved to be incompetent, and another well known attorney I contacted declined my case, telling me I would not prevail. When I contacted Alethea she took the time to thoroughly listen to my case, ask relevant questions, and then she agreed to represent me. It was a particularly hard time in my life as I had a family member ill with cancer and another with a serious drug addiction. Alethea was always compassionate and concerned with my well being. She is extremely smart, focused, and impressive in the courtroom. She fought tirelessly for me. By the end of my case, which she brilliantly won, I felt she was not only my attorney but also a trusted friend. I highly recommend Alethea Rebman and her firm.

What can I say about Alethea and her entire office that would express how much of a positive difference to my life they made. I was facing a life broken by my husband’s second affair yes, but I had suffered through a terrible medical emergency that left me unable to work even part time. My health was our focus and the M&R team worked tirelessly to obtain a settlement for me that would allow me to heal and someday be employable again. The settlement was generous yet fair to both parties, neatly dividing the marital assets. Her counsel during this time was invaluable in helping me to keep my poise, and to keep my conscious clear of anger or bitterness. Alethea is family (no we are not blood related) but I would do anything for her and it would not begin to show the gratitude that I have for the life she obtained for me. Hire M&R; you will be so glad you did.

Alethea is much more than a lawyer to me. She became like a family to me, and her law firm feels like an extended family. Seven years ago, a friend of mine recommended Alethea as a great divorce lawyer. She met with me, and she agreed to take over my case from another lawyer who was OK, but I needed someone who can understand me better. I needed a woman to represent me and fight for my children and me. Every divorce is painful, especially when the children are involved, and when one of the sides starts hurting the children to destroy the other side. That was extremely difficult for me. Alethea was there for me every step of the way. She would respond to my calls at any time of the day or night, and we went through some challenging situations that involved life and death situations, TRO, and many more. Throughout all that time, I knew I could count on Alethea and her team. Her partner Dyan was there as well. She would step in when needed, with all her expertise. Her paralegals are kind and willing to help all the time. They became so familiar with my case, and they were living through each heartbreaking motion and unfortunate event with me. I am an immigrant and alone on the island without family and support. Alethea was, and still is, my family and my biggest support. Honestly, if it was not for here, I am not sure I would be here today. The words cannot describe how thankful I feel for having her in my kid’s and my lives. I was scared, insecure, emotional wreck, and did not know what to do next. Alethea and her team helped me regain self-confidence, strength, and support I needed when I did not have where to turn to. I would highly recommend anyone who needs a divorce lawyer to chose Alethea and her firm. You will be thankful forever. She is brilliant, sharp, knowledgable, organized, understandable, loyal, supportive, a BIG heart, kind, and she will fight for you like she is fighting for herself. She knows when to act and what to do. I was dealing with an extremely difficult ex-spouse, but Alethea helped me to get the 100% physical and legal custody for my children. If it were not for her, the monster of the family court system would eat me alive. Last but not least, whoever reads this, it means you need help. Go ahead and chose Alethea and her team. Choose Alethea because she will HEAR you, she will be there for you, and she will be your (and your children’s) rock and protector to receive the justice you deserve. Thank you, Alethea, and the team. Borjana.

Jeff is the man you need for the job! I was falsely accused of a sexual harassment case in the Army. Jeff quickly acted and responded back having me appeal and writing a rebuttal to the Commanding General. Overall the case that was initially founded, then was reversed to unfounded. Thank you Jeff for everything you do by standing in the gap for service members in need.

Choosing Jeff was the best choice I ever made to combat the UCMI(Uniformed Code of Military INJUSTICE). I unfortunately fell victim to this and was left with a very difficult choice. I was threatened to be illegally separated from the Navy with no due process in one week's time. The command Jag decided to take it upon himself to illegally withhold evidence so he can convict me of a crime I did not commit. That same Jag told me he knew I was innocent but it would look better on his evaluation to convict me and what can I do since he has the law on his side and I do not. Luckily, I found Jeff who I can proudly call the "Military Lincoln Lawyer". In no time at all Jeff diagnosed the problem and quickly developed a plan of action to address this and give me a fighting chance. Shortly after hiring the Military Lincoln Lawyer all charges were dismissed and big Navy was made aware that they hired a crook to represent their command. Do not fall victim to the military's unfair practice of law or to crooks who want to convict you so they can gain career advancement. Call Jeff the Military Lincoln Lawyer now if you are facing legal issues because I can honestly say he will be better than your opposition.

In only one conversation I learned the passion Mr. Tipon has for defending accused or investigated persons. He didn’t have to take the time he did with me, and I’m grateful he did. It was a comfort, like that from an old friend; to learn a little more about the law relieved my crippling fear that the accused was going to be denied a simple choice: Here, or there? This case means the world to the person who is loved by his family who wants the best always, by his friends (who have become as close as his family), and by me. Mr. Tipon took time to talk, to understand concern, and to inform and inquire. He’s a listener is simply the best. I’d like to get to know him as much as he gets to know his clients. And it would be good to better understand the plight of people who become less fortunate by subjection to a system they may not understand, because it has not been maintained in the spirit of welcoming individuals seeking the opportunity of a new place! The accused is and was a blessing. Then one day they wake to find it all potentially ripped away? Not just. Every person should have the right to self determination, which we take for granted. I was raised to know this country in a time where those ideals were lauded and applauded. The poem on the formerly welcoming Ellis Island reads, “Send us your tired, hungry, poor, those tempest tossed weary travelers” (can’t be sure about the exact wording, but hope I have captured the spirit) I would add “and let them stay if they so choose, and let’s make it better, together!” -Kenneth Rice II

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Honolulu, Hawaii?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
