I highly recommend! Mr. Sam took my case, ran with it and got the judge to rule in my favor! He’s very knowledgeable!

Mr. King was very prompt in responding, professional, and kind when I had urgent questions about my situation. He spoke to me without judgement, was patient, and I could tell - really, really cares about people. I gained much more clarity just by talking with him for a short time. Thank you Mr. King.

My mother suffered a fractured jaw and bruised ribs from a fall at a commercial parking lot in Kailua. It was obvious the property management firm was negligent due to no lighting and obstructions leading to the overflow parking lot. You never want to settle directly with the insurance adjuster unless you have representation from an attorney. After consulting with dozens of attorneys who claimed they specialized in personal injury claims 99% refused to take the case citing: age of mom, Medicare issues and/or trouble prosecuting premise injuries. I finally came across with Sam King. Wow immediately I knew I found the right attorney. Most lawyers did not even want to spend much time on the phone discussing the issue but Mr. King invited us to his office and I could immediately know he was knowledgeable and very experienced in handling such cases. He knew how to work the system and who to talk with to get a good settlement. Other attorneys were simply clueless on many of these matters. I also liked that Mr. King never charged a penny upfront and I was free to consult with him regarding matters to this case. Very friendly and honest he could discuss the possible issues to expect. What my mom and I REALLY cherished from Mr. King was his ability to really listen. All these other attorneys talk and interrupt you constantly. Many times victims are formulating their thoughts and instead of assisting your thought process other attorneys cut you off. But not Mr. King. At the end we got a really big settlement w/o even having to go to trial. I would overwhelmingly recommend Mr. King to anyone who has experienced a personal injury. Sincerely, Richard and Nina Nov 2017

I am truly ruined when it comes to Lawyers. Sam King has set the bar extremely high for my expectations with Lawyers and I know this because of his professionalism and expertise during my divorce. I am active duty stationed here in Oahu and was in need of a good attorney that wouldn't gut my bank account in the process. He gave me a free consultation after which he quoted me a flat rate price for services depending on my situation for my divorce. Which means that I could call him up, send him an email with more questions or concerns and he doesn't charge me by the hour or by the email; this alone is worth its weight in gold for active duty on a budget. As we went into the "negotiations" with my ex and her Lawyer he explained clearly my chances of winning custody of my son if we were to go to trial. Which was great because I didn't want a Lawyer that just told me what I wanted to hear; he told me the real brutal truth even if its not what I wanted to hear. As active duty I didn't have a lot of faith in my situation but with Sam as my Lawyer handling my divorce he helped me get split 50/50 physical and legal custody of my son. As a father dedicated to my son this was huge because there isn't a lot of information out there for active duty males and my son is my world. In a nut shell Sam King did exactly what he said he was going to do, there was no hidden agenda or surprises, he was honest and straight forward and if you hire Sam as your Lawyer you will not be disappointed in your decision of hiring a Lawyer. I am ruined because I know that he is a rare thing, a solid Lawyer you can trust and you will never find another one like him.

Sam helped some friends and I get out of a jam. We got tickets for being in an area we were not supposed to be in, unbeknownst to us and were mandated to show up in court. First, he was relaxed, which immediately helped us to feel reassured and calm. Second, he had a case file, plan, and defense/explanation already outlined as well as a description defending our character. By doing that, he already worked with the opposing lawyer and the judge and the case was essentially over before it started without our having to lift a finger, say a word, or spend any time on the case other than just showing up as mandated. It could not have gone better. If you are ever in need, I highly recommend Sam and believe you will be the best of hands.

It's been over two months since my sentencing date and I still feel as though I haven't thanked Myron enough for all of his hardwork and compassion he had throughout my entire ordeal. I can still remember the day getting out of jail never having been and meeting Myron for the first time. I will tell you one things for sure he genuinely cares for his clients right from the get go. I went through a roller coaster of emotions and Myron never gave up on me even though he had plenty of reasons to get rid of me as a client. I was facing some very intimidating charges and Myron was right next to me the entire time with that genuine concern that only family & friends have. I'm so lucky to have been able to have Myron as my attorney and will never forget what he did for my family and myself. He gave me a life again that I thought was gone for good. kp

Lynne Jenkins McGivern is an amazing attorney and person. Her professionalism, knowledge, and hard work was a constant comfort to me during my very difficult divorce. My divorce was bonkers complicated with jurisdiction issues, restraining orders in other states, my spouse seizing marital assets, etc. When ever I told her something she grasped the severity of the situation and was quick to formulate a plan. As a side note, over the year we worked together, she remembered everyone's name (my husband, his girlfriend, my kids, my mother etc) even though she had not met them. My husband's attorneys would mistype the children's names or ages, I hated that. Lynne never made such mistakes. Also, while Lynne is no more expensive than the other good divorce attorneys in HI, I never felt over-billed. My divorce was expensive, but whenever I saw her bills, I felt they were justified and a very fair representation of the hard work she did. If you are thinking about a divorce or getting divorce, Lynne is the person you want. She is a pleasure to work with and having her on "my side" was the one bright spot of my miserable divorce!!

Lynne was able to secure physical and legal custody for my children. She really fights for her clients. I was in an abusive situation and didn't know how to explain the harm I wanted my children protected from. Lynne immediately got the children child support, even though their dad was trying to get a continuance and prolong not paying. She fought for the children to have supervised visits for the entire TRO, which they did. She had a judge's ruling reconsidered and changed and did what was best for my kids till the end. Also, upon reviewing bills from other firms, Lynne and Anita definitely undercharge. Other firms here overcharge, or charge you for not working and try to blame other attorneys, its horrible. Lynne isnt like that at all. She honest, shes very strategic, and shes a fighter. I have been in her office as she works and she works quickly, writes eloquently, and was able to perceive my thoughts and concerns for my children while utilizing the law. Hire her.

I had a really complicated divorce. My wife was not cooperating/communicating. Her attorney was trying to make me look like a bad father. Our assets were partially shared with other family members. I started with someone who had a good reputation in the industry, but honestly, he seemed to have too many other cases and did not seem to want to understand the details of my Case, or be proactive. During the course of our divorce, I did my own research, and interviewed about 3 other attorneys, all of whom came highly recommended. This is what makes Lynne different: She asked appropriate questions regarding the history and analyzed the data I had compiled. She maintained good communication and was empathic. She did not unnecessarily turf work to her employees, which meant she took the time to really dig into the details of my case. She responded to phone calls and emails very promptly. She is very accessible. Something I did not expect, was she never mentioned how busy other cases made her and ALWAYS took the time to follow up on my issues. It was as if I was her only client. I felt like I was getting VIP treatment. The way my case was going before I met Lynne, I think I was at least 18 months away from divorce. Lynne took the time to understand my position and speak with the other attorney to get a better understanding of their position. Lynne drafted a proposal which became a settlement and we were divorced in 4 months. I am very thankful for this because of the high conflict nature of our case, without Lynne, it would have been MUCH longer. I regret not starting with Lynne, but she picked up my case midstream and worked to settle very quickly.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Honolulu, Hawaii?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
