Kept me informed @ all times. Explained how the law process works. Enjoyed communicating with Mr. Young. Above all he worked extremely hard on my behalf.

I hired William Young & Associates to help with an inattentive driving violation. It was apparent through our conversations that Will knew how to negotiate with the prosecutor to achieve the best outcome. He was willing to fight for what he thought the outcome should be and In my situation was ultimately able to get my charge dismissed. One of the things I liked was that he laid out all of the options for me but gave me the choice of what i wanted to do. He would give me his input and answer any questions. He would tell me how things should go during the hearing so I knew what to expect. Will and his staff were very professional, friendly and courteous. His Legal Assistant, Stephanie, was always courteous and efficient. I would not hesitate to use his services in the future and am very appreciative for his help.

Will took care of a inattentive driving charge and failure to appear. He handled it quickly and efficiently and answered all my questions and successfully reduced the charges to less than a speeding ticket. Very easy to talk to and thoughtful for someone with no prior legal experience.

I first met Will right before my arraignment hearing while I was still in jail. It was obvious from the start that he was experienced and understood the stress and fear that one goes through being in jail. After that I met with him at his office to discuss my case and was given all the attention and time that you expect from a highly rated lawyer. He understands the nuances and the reality of the law. He never made me feel like he was over or under promising the results that could happen. He met me at all my court dates ahead of time to answer any questions, and let me know what to expect when we walked in. While the case was ongoing I began to receive calls from the store i shoplifted at and Will asked me for there number and said he would handle it. After that I stopped receiving those calls. I do believe that my case was resolved with a better outcome for myself than if I had just gone with a public defender. After my criminal case was settled, I received a notice of a civil case against me. Will explained to me a few options to take and wrote an eloquent letter for me to send to the recovery law firm. I never once felt alone throughout this process and truly appreciate the obvious experience, impeccable bedside manner, and active communication Will provided.

We were referred to Amber by our financial advisor after our previous attorney retired. We had literally spent thousands on a very complicated trust. We needed to make some simple modifications, but were a bit gun shy that we might be in for another large bill and protracted effort. We were pleasantly surprised with Amber's efforts to wade through our big old trust, her professionally respectful way of telling us we could make it simpler and her approachable demeanor. She obviously knows what she is doing! Wish we had met her sooner. We would HIGHLY recommend Amber.

Brooke is the best. She is professional, competent, and caring. She also uses real time reporting, so you can see a very accurate transcript as you are conducting or defending the deposition. Rough transcripts are available by email immediately. Brooke is intelligent, too, and your transcripts will be top notch!

I worked with Kevin for my DUI charge in 2014. I prefer to not discuss the specifics of my case in a public forum but I did want to comment on the work of Kevin. I can understand that DUI lawyers very likely get all the same questions during the initial consultation, but Kevin approached it as if it was a natural conversation as opposed to the scripted or outlined discussions I had with a few specialists before I talked to Kevin. That made me feel much more comfortable. He and his staff were there helping me throughout the process and answering every single question I had.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boise, Idaho?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
