Phill was highly aggressive throughout the time I spent with him working on my case. I initially thought this was a good thing. To his credit he and his team make things happen quickly. In my opinion those aggressive tactics worked against my case. I left his service and spoke with other representation when I realized his aggressive style was not meant to benefit my children but rather his pockets. He promised that I could get most anything I wanted, which I believed initially. I have spoke to a few other clients of his who have also stated they had a similar experience. The lawyers I spoke to subsequently were concerned that I had been mislead. They asked that I pursue mediation because the damage had been done and that going to trial would work against me.

I made the costly mistake of having this clown represent me in my divorce. He is not his father. He had a kidney transplant and is barely able to function. He worried more about his drugs sitting in a hot car than he did about my divorce. Huge mistake on my part. Cost me hundreds of thousands more than it should have. I really dont think he is physically or mentally able to function.

I hired Phil to help me with a post- divorce custody modification situation. I had to make some tough decisions under intense pressure and Phil was truly by my side through the whole thing . Even though he is extremely busy, he was able to quickly grasp the complexities of my situation and helped me change gears when he felt it was in my best . interest. He and his staff are extremely efficient and didn’t waste my time or money . I highly recommend Phil Bevis . He is simply one of the best family law attorneys in Boise.

Phil Bevis is an extremely intelligent, no-BS attorney. He says what he means and does what he says. He is as fast on his feet as anyone I’ve ever met, and I am often astonished by his ability to recall intricate details of my case at just the right moment for maximum impact. At the same time, he does not over-rely on his intellect and speed. When I arrive at court hearings, no matter how minor the issue, Phil has prepared notes for his opening statements. He is also cost-conscious and consistently takes the time to discuss the pros, cons, and costs of each decision I have to make. In addition to getting outstanding results in my divorce and custody litigation, Phil demonstrates genuine concern. He refers to my children by name and his commitment to protecting me and my family is evident. In addition, the other attorneys, paralegals, and office staff at his firm have been prompt, helpful, and supportive when issues arose while Phil was unavailable. The entire firm makes me feel like I am in good hands at all times. If you need a good divorce attorney, I wholeheartedly recommend Phil Bevis. If you are unlucky enough to be in a legal battle with someone who has a personality disorder or other mental health issue, I recommend you run (don’t walk) to Phil. These issues add immense complexity to legal battles and they are difficult to explain to those who aren’t already familiar with them. Fortunately, Phil is well-versed on the subject. In my case, Phil’s knowledge and expertise with mental health issues were vitally important to effectively managing a near-constant parade of irrational conflicts and, ultimately, achieving successful legal outcomes.

I have both hired Mr. Perry's services for both business and personal legal matters and have found his service to be excellent. He has successfully worked through several complicated and high stakes contractual and lender involved matters. His council is direct and clear, and his legal knowledge is deep. The fees are appropriate and fair, and he has always been responsive. He remains the "first call" for my legal needs.

I had an employee embezzle a significant amount of trust funds and Mr. Perry guided me through the incredibly difficult maze of resolving respective issues with the IRS and clients whose funds were held in trust. His efforts went above and beyond legal service.

Brooke is the best. She is professional, competent, and caring. She also uses real time reporting, so you can see a very accurate transcript as you are conducting or defending the deposition. Rough transcripts are available by email immediately. Brooke is intelligent, too, and your transcripts will be top notch!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boise, Idaho?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
