Martha was so easy to work with for our adoption of our foster child. The Judge complimented her as well. He said, “I want to mention I do appreciate how prepared you come into court and always provide printed copies of documents as you know I like, along with having them organized passing them to me before I need to ask.” Her paralegal Penny was a hoot to speak to and both had very quick responses in which as you all know is rare for lawyers. They are a wonderful team! By the shake of a hand, eye contact and hug I know they are good people to work with!

I had an excellent experience using Martha for mediation, and would highly recommend her a thousand times over! I felt very anxious going into it and left feeling confident and empowered. Martha helped me to advocate for myself and my kids best interests in a very high conflict situation, and within 3.5 hours we had an agreement signed and sent to the judge! If you’re in need of mediation services I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you Martha!

Pros
1
Highly professional and knowledgeable in legal matters
“Martha's expertise, professionalism, intelligence, kindness, and social ability to see through the dishonesty and aggressive tactics by my spouse provided an exceptionally rapid process and settlement within three hours.”
2
Caring and compassionate approach
“Martha was very patient and kind when handling my mediation case for family court. I had never been through this kind of situation and was very nervous and unsure what to do when my mediation day came. Martha made me feel very comfortable and at ease during a very stressful time.”
3
Effective communication and responsiveness
“Martha was extremely supportive through the process of the adoption of my siblings. If there were any questions that I had or didn't understand Martha was patient and kind while helping me understand.”
4
Efficient and timely in handling cases
“Martha helped resolve a mediation issue very quickly. Great to work with.”
5
Earns respect from judges and other lawyers
“On more than one occasion a judge has commented on how prepared she always is. She is the only attorney I refer people to.”
Cons
1
Potential issues with mediation services
“DO NOT use any mediation through Roletto Law you will get screwed like I did get an attorney that is competent and fast I was so frustrated with Martha's lack of communication that I didn't understand fully what I was signing I just wanted it done and now I'm completely screwed so don't be like me DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE OR OFFICE get a real attorney that will listen and get the job done correctly.”
2
Concerns about attention to detail in drafting agreements
“Went there for mediation. She failed to put items down that were discussed then "clarified" by revising the agreement which meant adding things not on the original agreement to the benefit of the other party causing further argument and more legal fees afterward.”

Daniel Sheckler is by far the greatest attorney. He represented me very well as my attorney. If I ever had a concern about my case, he was there to help with no delay. I will be recommending him as an attorney to anyone in the future who needs an attorney!

Mr. Sheckler personally phoned me back and despite my personal difficulties regarding my memory, which can often frustrate & foster impatience in less understanding Professionals; Mr. Sheckler was respectful, patient, polite, & above all, as helpful as he could be considering the circumstances. I would recommend Mr. Sheckler and his law office for anyone in need of an attorney in Idaho focusing on his primary avenue of practice, which I believe is D.U.I. defense. Don't just take my word for it, give this Gentleman a call. He will get in touch with you and give you the rundown himself. Thanks again for your time, Mr. Sheckler!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Coeur D Alene, Idaho?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
