I first became acquainted with Mike when he was coaching my grandson in soccer. I contacted Glisson law firm after being in a car accident. There were some disputed issues about my claim, and Mike helped me through the whole process. He also help calm me down during my deposition which helped me gain confidence when testify for my case. I feel he was why the decision turned out very favorable. His secretary, Stephanie, is the best. She is both friendly and professional. The whole staff makes you feel very welcome when you go to the office. I can not say enough about how well Mike treats his clients. I would recommend him 100%.

I had told them about my daughters case in 2015 when the incident took place they agreed I had a case and they started work. I haven't heard from them in 2 years and they finally call me and tell me 2 years later after they have been working my case that they don't have a case. How do you wait 2 years to determine you don't have a case? You couldn't have made that determination within the hour of me explaining my case in 2015? I believe once you hire a lawyer you don't have to keep hounding them let them do their job so I only called maybe 3 times within 2 years. So for them to wait 2 years later to say they don't have a case is ridiculous. I have since gotten a lawyer in Edwardsville who said he just couldn't believe this lawyers unprofessionalism when it came to my child. There is no expense when it comes to my child so paying him was not an issue. I believe he was unknowledgeable about how to present the case and what to do and dropped it 2years later because he didn't know what to do. They played with our time for 2 years just to tell me they don't have a case but you had one when i came into your office and explained the case. They are unprofessional and unknowledgeable so DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Mr. Glisson represented me in my case initially involving a serious car accident and a few broken bones. At the time I hired him, my injuries had healed, I was working, and was in no serious financial danger. The case proceeded accordingly, until I suffered both the loss of my job and the death of my father, who would have been my primary source of financial support while resolving my situation. I was facing homelessness and all manner of personal catastrophe, and needed my settlement put in the express lane, so to speak. Mr. Glisson could not have been more considerate toward me or my situation. He was, to put it mildly, profoundly patient with me at a time when I was (also putting it mildly) an absolute nightmare to deal with. The compassion and understanding he showed me was above and beyond what I would expect from an attorney. I wish I could do more to thank him than this review. He would probably say he was just doing his job, but not all attorneys do their jobs with the understanding that there are real human lives behind the cases they're working. Mr. Glisson is acutely aware that his clients are real people with real problems. He is unique in that regard, and I'm immensely grateful to him.

I worked at a hospital for 38 years. I would take the patients and transport them to surgery. I was going to get a bed to transport a patient, when I tripped and fell on a foot stool that shouldn't have been left the way it was. I broke my left wrist and my right kneecap. I was referred to Mr. Glisson by a co-worker of mine who had hired him for a recent case. Mr. Glisson and his staff were very kind and handled my case with such professionalism. Mr. Glisson helped me through the worker's compensation process, not rushing the process and allowing me to recover before resolving my case. Not only is he knowledgeable in the areas he practices, but he is a genuine person who wants to see good come to people who deserve it. I have already recommended a fellow co-worker who was recently injured. I would highly recommend Mr. Glisson to anyone in search of an attorney!

I have been working since I was 17, I have dropped 165 pounds for my health. I want to live a full and healthy life. Because of someone else's negligence, I took a fall on a wet floor that had been mopped and not properly posted. They said they were sorry and refused to write down my name to contact me about the incident. I ended up in the emergency room from the horrible pain. I had also missed work which caused me to lose some financial stability. I contacted the place of business and was treated like it was no big deal. They refused to pay my doctor bill and after speaking with their lawyer, they were advised they did not have to pay. The only think I was offered, was their consumer services that I had paid for when I took the fall. I have always worked for my money and never sued to get ahead, I only wanted to be relieved of the pain I suffered. I also could not get the medical treatment that I needed that would help find out what the real damage had been. After a month and a half of pain, I went to see Michael Glisson. He was very kind and believed that I should be treated with respect. The damage was much more extensive than a sprain, that I had originally been diagnosed with. I had to have surgery and sustained a fracture in a joint. I am so grateful that Mike listened to me when no one else would. I am able move on with my life and enjoy it without pain I sustained from the slip and fall. Mike helped me in receiving $125,000. He also helped in giving me my dignity back and the respect I deserved in the first place. I would highly recommend Mike!!

I have used Julie's services in the past for my daughter, and recently for myself with a speeding ticket. She was able to help reduce the fines and with court supervision. She responded to my phone calls and emails promptly. I keep her number and recommend her to family and friends.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Alton, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
