If you're wondering why Donald Cosley has so many good reviews, it's because he's definitely the best. Donald helped me a lot when I had problems , he accompanied me and gave me precise instructions on how we were going to fix it and everything was a success. He also understood my financial situation for which I am very grateful. More than a good lawyer he is a good person and he enjoys the work he does. Highly recommended ❤️

I had three traffic tickets at once, and was in big trouble and found Mr. Stevens. Mr. Stevens is Sincere, professional, honest, strategic. Throughout the entire process of my case, he was super supportive, responsive and kept us informed. I've never been more happy with the result. Words couldn't describe my experience with his service. I will recommend to anyone who needs the service.

Mr. Stevens does the following: 1. Wins Cases - Super intelligent 2. Returns calls in light speed (he has returned many of my freak outs about potentially going to prison.) 3. An attorney that is on his way to a judgeship 4. Reasonable price 5. Shows up to court, on-time and has an excellent reputation 6. Family Man 7. Honest 8. Decent I could go on, but, you get the point. I went to Northwestern. I had access to many attorneys and the latter's 'Rolodex.' I shunned the latter. I chose Mr. Stevens each time. At one point I enjoyed trouble. Although I no longer engage in such activity, I want to share my experience for the person who still does. Other attorneys use the 'bait and switch.' Lots of upfront talk and before you know it, the retainer is paid and off they go. Not Jason. If you want a fair resolution to your antics, with a tremendous amount of strategy, hire him. Thank you!

Jason was so professional from the first visit to our dismissal. He always made sure we were comfortable with the complete process of what was going to happen. I see why he has so many awards. We are so glad we hired this gentleman, we felt safe the entire way. Do yourself a favor and go for the consultation. You'll see what I'm trying to write here. He's awesome.

After five years of working with a different medical malpractice firm on my case, it was time for me to seek a different legal counsel. I felt my initial attorney did not invest the time nor the effort I was promised during my first (and only legal) consultation. Last year, I retained the Martin Law Firm. After just two weeks, my new counsel knew the intricate ins and outs of my case, worked with the speed and integrity I had hoped for in this process, and (I felt) had a deeper knowledge of and empathy for the injuries I had sustained and will always suffer from. With Martin Law, there was an appropriate, but delicate, sense of urgency and fight for me, the client, in mind. A precise, thorough, and well-communicated plan for forward movement in my case was shared, and the momentum in my litigation process began. As consummate professionals, Jeffrey and his partner, Shauna, checked in on me often and kept me updated each and every step of the way. Knowing what I know now, I should have shopped around for attorneys and not settled for the first one I had consulted with years ago. Had I started with Martin Law, I'm confident my case would have been settled years ago. I am forever grateful for their expertise and would never hesitate to send a friend or family member their way if ever in need.

My experience using Jeffrey Martin was excellent. All communications were handled in a timely manner. Jeffrey, staff and contractors were very knowable regarding nursing home issues. Would recommend and use his services again.

I hired Jeff Martin to represent me in my injury case. He has done excellent job handling it and negotiating very good settlement with insurance company. Jeff is one of those "rare breed" No Nonsense attorneys who go straight to the point with you, honestly answers your questions, and actually pick up the phone every time you call him. He has deep knowledge and experience in injury field, and he knows how to apply it while he works on the case. Those characteristics also apply to his office assistant Barbara - they both very efficient. On top of all that - Jeff and Barbara are simply very nice, pleasant people to work with - so Martin Law is my attorney's office of choice and I strongly recommend it to anyone with injury case.

A creditor sued me personally on a loan I had guaranteed for my startup. I tried to cut a deal but the bank's attorney wouldn't budge on the amount and was insisting I either pay up or that a judgment was going to be entered against me. I thought I was going to have a judgment hanging over me and ruining my credit for years. I hired Jordan and in less than a week he got a signed written agreement from the other attorney agreeing to write off almost half the debt and dismiss the case! I don't think they wanted to square off with him in court! I saved thousands of dollars and my credit. Also, he explained the entire process to me so I never felt like I didn't know what was going on or what the status was. Highly recommended for any kind of commercial dispute!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Arlington Heights, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
