This place is a joke and they lie. I can't put the name of the front desk person, because Google prohibits that disclosure. Spoke to "H" at front desk, she was nice and pretended to be helpful. She told me to fill out an app. She gave me one, filled it out and brought it back. It sat in her "in-box" for days. I returned to ask status and it was still in her in-box. Another woman came up, because "H" refused to get off her personal phone call or even acknowledge that I was standing there. The woman was vividly angry and picked up my app in the in-box. Very rude. It was apparent that there was some "issues" there, having nothing to do with my app. She basically said they'd get to it, when they get to it. I returned yesterday to pick up my app. "H" began to tell me that "they don't really take these" cases (mine), but then she caught herself and backtracked and then pretended she did not say that. She refused to look at me and kept looking around... as if the excuse she was looking for was going to fly in from the windows. She then gave me a piece of paper and told me to "call the number and they will be able to help you." The number was to Prairie State Legal Services. ha! I asked her why she was telling me to call their office. She said, "They can help you better." I explained it was just the switchboard and they never answer. She was trying to just pass me off and get me out of the office instead of being a professional about it and telling a person that they cannot take this matter. I called her out about it and then let her know that I would post a review about their unprofessional behavior and practices and her lies to people, as well as the tape-recording of our conversation, which I've posted on the web to warn others to not use this agency. They are not legal professionals. They only waste your time and when we are seeking legal remedy for a wrong committed against us, it's unacceptable for these people to waste our valuable time. Their behavior toward me was reflective of Defendants' attorneys. I've been informed since, that this office provides confidential information to opposing parties in the cases they refuse to take. This was why I demanded to have my app returned. "H" first pretended to not know where it was and then said that she "has too much stuff to do and it's somewhere in her in-box", although there was only 1 app in her box as I stood. She then retrieved my app from one of the attorneys who refused to show their face, but instructed her on what "not" to say. Avoid this place. They only impose further harm members of the public.

We, an animal welfare non profit, found ourselves dealing with a spiteful, dishonest, extremely difficult previous board member to the point of needing legal advise. Kyle knew we were dealing with money constraints, as we are 100% volunteer and donation and our supporters work hard for their money and we appreciate every penny. We also did NOT want our issues to have to go as far as needing legal advice, much less legal actions, but that was out of our hands, unfortunately, when someone decided she owned a non profit and didn't have to answer to anyone for her improprieties. We reluctantly voted to consult an attorney and Kyle's was the first we were introduced to. We didn't ask, nor receive, pro bono work, but we did have to put a cap and he worked smartly and thoroughly to keep us within those limitations. He listened, understood and was always very easy to deal with and talk to. We felt at ease and confident in him from the first meeting and that hasn't changed. We did have to take actual legal action, it didn't end at a consult, and that led to a hearing. The outcome of that meeting worked in our favor, thanks to his commitment and persuasion. Even though we were a VERY small case for him, in terms of monetary conclusion, he never treated us any less than with the right mix of respect to feel important and friendliness to feel at ease. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and appreciate all he's done, is doing, and will do for our small, but feisty group!

I was referred to Mr. Korkus's firm by my insurance agent for help on a traffic matter, a serious matter that could have had a lasting impact. After meeting with me and listening to my situation, he agreed to take on my case and I am so thankful that he did! He confidently walked me through the legal process and patiently answered my many, many questions. I know for certain that my outcome would not have had such a positive ending had I not hired Mr. Korkus. Should I need legal assistance in the future, I will absolutely seek his counsel again, and will refer any friend to him as well.

I consulted with Kyle about an IT matter that had the potential to impact my business greatly. From the second I contacted him he got back to me right away and we solved the matter within a couple of hours. To help get that type of stress out of my head so I could go on thinking about my day to day stuff with a clear mind was very valuable!

I have known Jim Ginzkey for approximately 13 years. My husband and I have retained him for services as well as called upon him for legal advice. I have referred friends and/or acquaintences to him for services and legal advice. Jim is extremely knowledgeable and honest. I have found that if he did not feel he was the best attorney suitable for advice on a specific matter he would provide a name of another attorney he felt could better assist. Jim is of excellent moral character. He is involved in the community. He is an honorable and trustworthy friend.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bloomington, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
