Alexandra Brinkmeier is an outstanding attorney. She's highly skillful and motivated in her practice. She did a phenomenal job fighting for the case and got it done faster than I even anticipated. Being in a somewhat unique situation, having never been married and from another state, I fathered a child who was born here in Chicago. Having lost my father several years ago and my relationship with him being a defining factor of my life, I decided to move here to be a large part of my daughter's life. Unfortunately the mother seemed intent on limiting my time and interaction with her, and was strictly opposed to me having any decision making authority, as well as to joint custody. Provided the common pop-culture enforced narrative of family court being highly biased against men and typically in favor of women in these situations, I reached out to the Law Offices of Jonathan Merel with little hope that I would receive joint custody and decision making at the conclusion of the case. I worked primarily with Aurelija Fitzpatrick and Marleena Broekema, and they were spectacular. They showed empathy to my situation, are intelligent, relentless, and fought for my daughter and I throughout the Pandemic, and just recently, the mother and I were able to settle on joint custody and decision making before the Christmas holiday. I highly recommend them; they are clear and concise communicators and don't run you around trying to run up your bill. In fact, when I received the bill I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently they accomplished tasks, and it was clear they weren't wasting time on the clock, so to speak. Also, although they are all very knowledgeable, if they do not know something 100% they will tell you, and then brainstorm among colleagues until they do. This is a sure sign of intelligence, instead of pretending to know everything, which I can't stand.

I was faced with an extremely painful and difficult legal situation after false allegations were claimed against me. Melissa and her team represented me accurately and passionately and were able to get the charges vacated/dismissed. I needed an attorney who would listen to my concerns and represent me faithfully in court. Melissa and her team did this. I am grateful for the excellent work they did in an extremely difficult time of my life.

I initially reached out to Jonathan Merel and discussed my situation in length. Right away he knew what game plan needed to be done to maintain "status quo" and provide me more parental responsibility rights. I am so so so happy I chose his law firm. I work directly with Chidi & Brad after that first initial call and they were great and worked on my case right away. Communication was immediate and daily when I asked questions. My case was a bit different because I had a Child Support agreement in place when my daughter was 2 years and I never realized the mother was given sole custody and more parental time as the attorney I hired at the time did not fight on my behalf and just agreed to everything other attorney requested then counseled me and told me this is how it is in Illinois and I'm a father of a daughter the mother will always get more rights. Fast forward to when my daughter turned 14 and I was very worried about my daughter living with her mother who was constantly moving every 3-4 years, breaking up with husband then getting back together, considering moving back to Chicago from Suburbs. The Law Office of Jonathan Merel put a kibosh on that right away with emergency court order to then finalize a new Joint Custody Parental Responsibility agreement. I now have my daughter weekdays AND every other weekend and my daughter goes to my school district which is superior to my baby mommas school district. I legit want to cry thinking about this as I now get to spend more time with my daughter while she finishes high school the next 3 years before she becomes an adult and is off to college. Unfortunately my marriage ended in divorce but with good fortune I had Melissa as my attorney. She was incredibly professional and caring. Filing for divorce in a marriage I wasn’t quite ready to end, she helped me along with every step. Knowing that this was the best choice for my future but also knowing I could pause or end the divorce process at any moment. She was spot on between helping me professionally with also being aware and underwing of my emotions and feeling. She guided me and fought for me harder then I was fighting for myself.
