I found Mr. Corso's name on the internet and was surprised to get Mr. Corso personally when I called the number. He took time to listen to my situation and then explained the process to me. After hiring Mr. Corso, I found him to be accessible, attentive, personable, and very knowledgeable. I am thankful for his assistance during a very difficult time.

I absolutely cannot thank Mr. Corso enough. I received Jeff's information from a friend/referral. I called him and immediately heard from him. He listened when I spoke to him. He would tell me just openly and honestly if it was usable in court or not. He gave me great advice on what to do next. Always gave me a call back or a text back. He works very well with the other lawyers and wants to truly do right by you and your loved ones. He makes you feel like you are his family. I will most definitely be happy to refer him to friends and family when needed.

Without the help of the entire Cooney, Corso & Moynihan Law Firm. I know I wouldn't be here spending time with my children. Mr. Corso took the bull by the horns and actively advocated for me in what was a horrific 5 year battle post divorce with my ex. He told behind me when he realized what was going on. He made no promises but he said he would do everything he could to resolve this matter. My ex's attorneys are snakes but Jeff rose above that and for that I'm forever grateful. In less than 2 weeks later I had phone calls with my kids and visits. I can't thank him enough and I will forever be grateful for what he accomplished in 5 short months what other lawyers couldn't do in 5 years. Mr. Corso took on an extremely difficult post divorce case and encountered issues that no one expected and few had ever seen. He worked tirelessly to make sure that the truth was told and presented it perfectly. He has stood by every one of my requests and guided me through the entire lengthy process. Though we faced challenges, Mr. Corso did not falter. His thorough research provided us the pathway we needed to rise to victory. I highly recommend Cooney, Corso & Moynihan Law Firm as I have never been nor have I ever seen anyone treated better. I am proud to be a Cooney, Corso & Moynihan Law client. I will continue to retain them for all legal matters that may arise as I know I am in the best hands."

Jeff is a true consummate professional, and a true Christian. Jeff cared about me and my case. Every decision he made with my best interests at heart. I would have been in unparalleled loss without his expertise and devotion to duty. Amazingly talented and experience. He is the champion for the underdog like me. I will forever be in his debt. He has earned a lifetime of respect and admiration from me. Anyone lucky enough to meet, know, or have the pleasure to hire Jeff will experience the same. I was confident that I had experience in my corner. I felt like “Rocky” must have felt to have Micky guiding him despite overwhelming odds to victory. So, I end with this from: [Proverbs 18, verse 15-17] The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the Great! In a lawsuit the first to speak, seems right. Until someone comes forward and cross-examines. Attorney Waite followed through as promised. My car was repossessed for failing to stay current on car payments. Mr. Waite not only got my car back, but he was able to lower my monthly payments as my car depreciated over time. Mr. Waite is knowledgeable and kind. He asked me what I wanted to do and he did his best to make that happen. If you are in financial trouble, call him ASAP!

I could not truly verbalize all that Bianca has done for me since our first meeting when I hired her in 2011 until today. Bianca not only has corrected the tax issues but has impressed me constantly with her consistent professionalism, patience and compassion for my situation. I could not be any happier or appreciate her any more than I do for the job she does so well.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Downers Grove, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
