Just hired them for a real estate purchase, and so far so good. Everyone has been polite, helpful, and articulate.

As a mortgage professional, real estate investor and as a everyday consumer I have closed on hundreds of Real Estate transactions in the past 19 years. In that time I have had the opportunity to work with many law firms, but none of them have exhibited the level of attentiveness that I experienced with The Zaba Law Group. They were thorough, efficient, professional , and highly competent. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Tracie, Wes, and the entire team at The Zaba Law Group for any and all of your legal needs.

Our family's attorney retired after 40 years of serving us and we were frantically looking for a replacement. Saw a good friend of mine review the Zaba Law group so I had to give them a try. At closing today I was disappointed that I couldn't meet Wes personally but his college Clint was wonderful and I mean wonderful. Much better than our family's attorney when it came to explaining things. Very patient which my wife loved. His knowledge and humor made it an easy painless experience. His ability to fight for the smallest detail made me extremely pleased. Also, Tracie(paralegal) was prompt and pleasant to deal with. Needless to say we have a new family attorney. This was my 13th closing and I highly recommend them. Thank you, Clint. Thank you Tracie and Thank you, Wes. Good day, all.

As a first-time homebuyer, the entire process of purchasing a home was overwhelming to us, but Wes Zaba was there every step of the way to guide us through the legal complexities of the real estate transaction. Wes was extremely responsive, always available to answer our questions, and provided sound legal advice that helped us make informed decisions. One of Wes' standout qualities was his attention to detail. At the closing he meticulously reviewed all the legal documents related to the purchase of our home, ensuring that we understood every aspect of the documents and highlighted any potential issues that needed to be addressed. Trust me, we had a lot of questions but he provided all the answers we needed to be confident to proceed. I never expected the original closing date to be the final closing date, but Wes went above and beyond to make sure that the process went smoothly and that the transaction was completed on time. Thanks to his efforts, the closing process was seamless, and we were able to move into our new home without any issues. Overall, I highly recommend Wes to anyone in need of a real estate attorney. His professionalism, expertise, and attention to detail were outstanding, and he made the entire home buying process a stress-free experience. I am grateful for his services and would not hesitate to use him again in the future.

I have used Wes and his amazing paralegal Tracie to both sell a home and buy one. They reply to my many questions right away, at all times from 7am to 9pm. They are quick with the paperwork and very affordable. I highly recommend this form and these amazing people.

I retained David Manjarres to assist me in negotiating a settlement with a former employer. Within a few weeks, he negotiated a more favorable settlement, including my attorney’s costs. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and professional, and puts a client’s mind at ease. I highly recommend.

Exceptional and focused attorney! I was a client in a collaborative divorce case that was in a state of flux for nearly 13 months and had hired her in to replace my first divorce lawyer. She immediately led the way in resolving all of the open issues, made strategic recommendations in order to control costs and had the case wrapped up within three months. Highly recommended!

I contacted Jennifer today for help with a legal matter. She talked to me right away and was extremely helpful. She seemed more interested to help with my situation as best financially possible which I greatly appreciated. Not easy to find attorneys like that. I will definitely be using her in the future if I need her. Thank you!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Downers Grove, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
