Earl was not only knowledgeable, but straightforward and compassionate about my situation. I felt respected and treated like a human, instead of a criminal for a horrible mistake I made. He kept informing me every step of the way until my case was completed. He was always responsive to my correspondence and positive throughout. Considering the situation, I could not have asked for better support! Thank you so much, Earl, and God Bless!!

Once again I found myself in a difficult situation in which I needed legal assistance. I knew from the get-go on account of some prior charges from my past, this case would be all the more difficult. I actually felt ashamed contacting Mr. Vergara (Earl). Why would a person feel ashamed contacting their lawyer? Because that's the impact Earl makes on a person. He treats his clients with such compassion...I truly consider him a friend. And I was actually hesitant to reach out for fear of feeling I let him down with another charge. How many folks can say they have that kind of a relationship with their attorney? But that's not Earl, he treats his clients as individuals who sometimes make mistakes and looks to find the best options available to remedy their situation. Again, this case was difficult to say the least, taking a little over two years. All the worse with the pandemic, numerous court changes, judge substitutions, etc, but in the end Earl worked is magic and secured for me an unbelievable outcome for which I'm forever grateful. Additional testament to Earl's character is how so many of his colleagues, lawyers, court staff smile when they see him come into the court. This man is highly regarded by his peers. I could write chapter and verse on Earl as a lawyer, and more importantly a person. He's phenomenal and I cannot recommend him enough. If you find yourself in a situation needing legal assistance, give Earl a call...you will not be sorry. Tell him Jim sent ya!

In 2016 I was arrested with a felony DUI. At that time I hired a different lawyer, who helped me with the case for over a year at which time i got a subsequent charge. I felt I needed to find a lawyer that was more equipped to handle both of my cases. So I found a lawyer, was very happy with the introduction, paid him the retainer, but after a few court dates I realized I was just another number and paycheck to him. After that, I did my research and read all of the reviews I could on lawyers in my area. I branched out further, and found Earl. All of the reviews I read were 4 star plus. Due to that, I set up an appointment. I spoke with him about my case. Unlike other lawyers, he didnt b.s. with me. All he said was everything would be okay. I told him I was worried, and he said to let him do the worrying, because that's his job now. Hes been my lawyer for 2 years now. Well today, I was found NOT GUILTY in a bench trial for my DUI case. Earl has been preparing for a bench trial for almost 6 months now if not longer. In the last few months earl has been working with Bill Gibbs on the case. And today, Bill did a motion to suppress which quickly turned into a bench trial, where the judge immediately found that I was not guilty. I was so happy and relieved once I realized what was happening. It was such a relief to hear somebody actually prepared and fought for me. And they were WELL prepared. It was absolutely no contest. Initially I met with over a handful of lawyers, practically all of which said it would be impossible to beat the DUI, and basically wanted me to take whatever the best plea they would give. Unfortunately, the fight's not over..but a HUGE weight has been lifted. It's all thanks to Earl Vergara and his law firm, and a special thanks to Bill Gibbs. Finding someone that is truly going to fight for you is a difficult task. They all try to sell to you, initially, and once they have your money, you're just another number. You have to do the best that you can do to find someone that is willing to try and put their best efforts towards your case. This is one of the most important decisions if you ever find yourself in a situation like this. I'm writing this review because I got everything that I could ever have hoped for in a lawyer with Earl. And i just want to let everyone, that is in need or looking for someone like him, know about my experience.

Earl was hired to reperesent in a DUI case. He was quick to respond and be available right away in our time of need for guidance. He had open communication and explained every detail while we were going through the process. He was able to reduce fines and fought for supervision and limited sentencing which was what we were looking for. We would hire Earl again in a heartbeat (Hopefully we never need to!) and would recommend him and his team to anyone needing a lawyer for a DUI case. Thank you to Earl for making a bad situation better to deal with and being such a great lawyer!

I recently retained Attorney Franzetti. She had been recommended to me by another trusted attorney. From our very first conversation I knew that my situation, sensitive as it was, would be handled with the utmost attention to detail. Franzetti had all the right listening skills, follow-up questions, and plan of attack. This immediately put me at ease. Throughout the proceedings she not only addressed my immediate concerns, but also had the foresight to stay steps ahead of any possible direction the case may take while navigating the legal system. I couldn’t have been more pleased with her professionalism, care and concern for myself, and of course, the outcome of my situation. After having been disappointed by previous attorneys, I can say with confidence that if you are considering Franzetti for you’re your legal needs……look no further!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Geneva, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
