David McDermott is awesome an a great ass lawyer

McDermott law group worked very hard for us for the last 2 years. We have a messy custody case that was just won. Would highly recommend this group, especially Dave. Dave was exceptional in court. It seemed like this was his own personal case—that’s how much detail was presented. Will be referring all of my family and friends to him.

A very experienced firm that works hard for the client and wins cases. Dave and his staff have worked so hard for our family in a child custody case for the last two years. Dave and Todd have been very attentive and prepared. Watching Dave at trial was amazing and made us all feel that we were in excellent hands. We made the right choice choosing McDermott Law Group for our family and will be forever thankful for the successful outcome of our case.

I was very grateful to Tim Garvey and the team at McDermott Law for handling my case. I was injured while doing contract work in Denver. As I recovered back home in Chicago, finding a law firm to represent me long distance was concerning. But Tim and the team were professional and caring about me and my case. They provided detailed information as to the process and what to expect. Tim cared about my recovery and answered all of my questions, so as a team we could make the right decision. Please do not do any business with this cocky, smug and inefficient law firm. They are among the worst in the business. Do not hire them unless you have money and time to waste. You hire one attorney, but an attorney you have never met and knows nothing about the case steps up and gets you a continuance. Their retainer is excessively high! I retained them for 6 months and never got my day in court. They helped the Respondent on my case more than they helped me. Very unprofessional, the receptionist is rude and has no customer service skills. I had to hire another attorney just to see any results in my case. I was treated horribly and can't caution you enough to take your business elsewhere!

It took a little time but I got the results that I needed from a difficult courthouse to win at.

I was/am the victim of having a falsified petition filed against me to destroy my relationship with my daughters. My ex filed this petition and I had less than a month to find and attorney and respond. I have evidence that can prove most of the allegations to be false. Dave Mcdermott was one of many attorneys I met with. He convinced me that he would do everything he could to fight for me, he guaranteed that supervised visits and overnights would be lifted right away as there was no legitimate reason for this. He said he would discount his rate since I was recommended by a good friend. We agreed on $350/hr with a $3,500 retainer, which was well above every other attorney I met with. Dave however, did not represent me at all, often ignored my phone calls and texts. After his associates "dropped the ball" repeatedly within the first month, Dave held a meeting to let everyone in the office know this cannot happen again. The nightmare continued, without any warning or my approval he had Omoyeni Adetola representing me. Prior to her signing on as my attorney, I never met, spoke with, or even knew of her. She was not listed on their company website, or on their door where 3 other attorneys are named. She was extremely unprofessional in every way possible. She made me wait hours for appointment's she scheduled. One occasion she was over 4 hours late arriving to the office. I then waited over an hour after she arrived to meet with her for about 5-10 minutes. I hired Dave in July and never once received a billing statement. In September I mention I had not yet received one. A few days later, I received an invoice and my entire retainer was gone. To that point they failed to inform me of very important and urgent matters in my case, they failed to prevent my case from repeatedly getting continued. They failed to notify me that a child rep was hired. When I contacted the child rep weeks later, her office said they made multiple attempts to reach out to Dave's office and let them know their client (me) needed to contact them. They still did not notify me. This caused more delays in my case. I had to pay around $700 to file an emergency hearing in the beginning which did not work out for me and since then it has repeatedly been continued. Shortly after Omoyeni somehow became my attorney she sent an email claiming that communication had broken down and they were withdrawing from my case. This was in October and they already filed a motion to withdraw before notifying me. Prior to that I responded to every email, text and call. In fact Dave was completely ignoring me at that point. I still have not heard a word from Dave to explain anything. They told the court they notified me I needed to file an appearance or a judgment may be filed against me. No one notified me of any of this. The only thing I received was an email from Omoyeni telling me they were withdrawing because there was a breakdown in communication. I replied to that email asking them what I failed to respond to and they did not respond back. A few weeks after withdrawing as my attorney, they send me a bill claiming I owe them another $3,000. Dave somehow burned through 7 THOUSAND dollars in just a few months. When I paid the $3,500 retainer he told me that would more than likely cover the entire case, but if we exceeded, we would discuss how to proceed. I had no clue he was still over billing me. The bill is absurd. $125 per email sent, $125 for a text message. He called a meeting for "dropping the ball" multiple times. He told me this was an internal meeting and I would not be charged. Yet he charged me $250. So I pay for him to tell his office they are bombing my case. If you are considering using them to represent you, I strongly advise you to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE. Dave took advantage of a vulnerable father trying to do everything to fight to stay in his daughters lives. He completely bombed my case in every way. I did not even think that was possible as there is no real evidence against me. STAY AWAY from Mcdermott Law Group, LLC
