I just had my first consultation with Christopher Valentino, and I’m thrilled with the experience. He answered all my questions and resolved my concerns quickly and efficiently. I had tried reaching out to other immigration attorneys, but they either didn’t pick up my calls or made me wait an indefinite amount of time for a response. Christopher, on the other hand, provided clear answers, offered excellent advice, and gave me great suggestions regarding my F-1 visa and green card situation. I will definitely recommend him to all my friends who may need his services.

I wish I knew about this site prior to hiring Mark. Everything I read was what I experienced and then some. At one point I couldn’t get ahold of him/his assistant for six months. Had to repeat things over and over all while being charged for it every time. He would write up things to put in my file regarding my ex wife not following the parental agreement and forget to send it to her lawyer. Ran up the bill and at the end pushed me To settle for a lot less then he lead me to believe. And never really listened when I would talk to him. He left out a tax issue that I told him about at the beginning, middle and towards the end. He got pushed around by my ex-wife and her lawyer. There’s more, but this should be enough. You can certainly find a better lawyer then Mark

Hi, I would like to leave a review to Freedom Immigration and Attorney Valentino. My family member had found a company with the same name on social media but apparently it was a fake company. I really appreciate that Attorney Valentino helped me understand that it was a scam. I really appreciate that he took a few minutes of his busy schedule to answer my questions and consultation. I would recommend his office.

Feel so much more secure with the future now that we had all our will and power of attorney papers completed. We know our children will not have to stress about decisions about our wishes. We were treated with respect and guided expertly during the process. We are very appreciative.

My immigration situation wasn’t easy. In 2016 I gave my case to a “reputable” polish attorney. It was hard to believe but 8 years flew by with lack of any results which left me hopeless, depressed and sad. Not only he did not progress my case at all, but exposed me to the higher risk of the potential removal proceedings. I honestly doubted I’d ever become a “legal” resident. Not to mention how terrifying it was to even think of possible permanent returning to Poland after 24 years in USA. My case seemed hopeless until a friend referred me to Justin Burton's office. As soon as I met him I knew he was a true professional and expert in the immigration law. Justin stands for his words and his work. I trusted him 100%. He delivers the discussed results, never sugar-coats, keeps clients well informed, and stays in touch with them. I loved how specific and to the point he was - I finally was in hands of a nonsense-free professional who respects people and their time. This July a year went by since Justin took my case and I already received my dream green card! The process was a success thanks to Justin and his team (special thanks to Kevin representing me in front of the immigration judge) I dont speak sufficient English which always causes me stress and huge anxiety, but Justin’s office took care of it. Their polish translator, Renata assisted me whenever needed. With Justin overseeing the complex multiple facades and dealing with of all immigration intricacies the whole process was actually a pleasure! I felt safe and well taken care of. In just 1 year Justin Burton accomplished what others couldn’t in a decade. I highly recommend Justin’s immigration law services. He gets the job done. Thank you, Teresa Doniec

Justin is a great lawyer. I’m still in the midst of the immigration process, but after switching many lawyers, I can finally say I’ve found one who truly cares about his clients and their cases.

Alexandra was recommended to us by some of her former clients. This was our first home buying experience. She was just tremendous! Walked us through the process, answered all of our questions and quickly responded to any emails or calls. During the closing she took her time going over all the documents with us, making sure we were satisfied with everything. Would certainly recommend her to any friends purchasing a home!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Northbrook, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
