Barron has been extraordinarily helpful in dealing with a less-than-straightforward situation as it relates to my grandmother's trust. He was always able to bring the conversation back to the law itself and did not entertain any speculation. Without fail, he gave very, very clear advice and direction. The most encouraging thing was that he looked after my interest instead of putting himself first. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Trustworthy, honest and reliable are just a few words to describe Baron. I could not have gotten through my problems without Baron. He held my hand. Walked me through the process step by step. Kept me informed. Returned my calls in a timely manner. He is just the best! You just can't go wrong if you hire Baron Harmon

...this is your guy. I was referred to Baron through a friend and I couldn't be more pleased! From Day 1 he was a consummate pro. He helped us through a tough situation regarding a tax bill and in the end his small fee saved me around $13,000 and that is not a lie. His knowledge is 2nd to none. He does a great job of explaining your options while offering up his completely honest outlook. No BS here, he will tell you what to do, how to do it and what you can expect. About as straight forward and honest as they come. I appreciated his help and I hope he shares our success story for many years to come because it was his hard work and knowledge that led to our victory. On top of all that he is a great guy that you can just sit down and talk to. Makes a few hours in his office seem like nothing. Just one more positive trait he possesses. I highly recommend this guy for any legal needs. Call him first and see what he can do for you.

I'm a REALTOR™ who had the pleasure of working with Favil David Berns & Associates, LLC on a complex transaction where a couple was both buying and selling a home. I highly recommend Harmon and their exceptional admin, Sue. Throughout the process, they were a steadfast advocate for their clients, showcasing excellent negotiation skills and maintaining clear, effective communication. Sue was a cornerstone of the operation, ensuring all details were impeccably managed and facilitating smooth interactions. Their dedication to their clients' needs and their ability to handle the intricacies of both buying and selling were truly impressive. It was a privilege to collaborate with such a professional and diligent team.

I have been using Jim Pauletto for about three years for many real estate deals as I am a real estate agent and have never been disappointed. Jeanette handles many questions in the office and refers me immediatley to Jim whenever necessary and he is available. They respond quickly to emails and phone calls. His prices are reasonable and his service is excellent.

My partner hired Larry as her divorce attorney. Don't waste your time or money. Once you get to the office, Gustavo Santana (who is head of firm) meets with you, reassures you, sugar coats you and then they want their retainer. After this, you will never talk to your lawyer again unless you are being billed. My partner never PHYSICALLY met Larry, whom the case was passed on to. We were under the assumption Gustavo would be taking the case since we talked to him and met with him and discussed the case with Gustavo. You will deal with the receptionists 99.9% of the time. Larry didn't take the time to explain anything court wise to his client. Just really awful experience. Don't let these people take away precious time (a year of ours) from being reunited with your CHILDREN. It seems to me that also, if you are a Hispanic woman (reading other reviews) you will be pushed through the courts like you are nothing. They truly do not care about their clients, only money. Your case will be slid through the system. They don't care if you win or lose, they get paid either way. Do your research...if you have to pay $5K for a good lawyer, do it. We did and were so glad that we did. Anyone looking for a worth it, no middle people, no receptionists type lawyer look up- Joanna l. Challacombe shes worth every penny.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Northlake, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
