I am very pleased with the way my case was handled. Cameron took the time to make sure I truly understood each part of the procedure. I highly recommend the Goodman Law Firm to anyone who needs a good Family Lawyer.

He used my entire retainer up in one email. He did not work on what was agreed upon. He has ignored my calls and emails after receiving payment. Please avoid at all costs especially if you have children.

I am so happy to have found Cameron Goodman to represent me in my divorce. Interviewed several attorneys before finding Mr. Goodman. I knew immediately after talking with him that he was someone that I could work with easily. He is professional, patient and kind. I have and will continue to refer anyone going through a divorce to Cameron.

If I can give her zero stars I would give her zero stars for her work and professionalism. We hired her because we thought she’s a good professional lawyer and will help us. We got fooled by her. I usually don’t write reviews but I have to this time for my mom. My grandfather just passed away but she couldn’t go because this lawyer named “Henna Musabji” messed our immigration case. She used to ignore our calls, passed all the important dates, and never focused on the case. We never said a thing to her because we used to respect her but when we used to ask her about her case she used to say “I am on vacation” litterly every time we used to contact her. Ms. Musabji, I just want to let you know that my mom didn’t get the chance to see her father last time because of YOU! May Allah you go through this too, may you never be able to see your parents, and may you go through the pain that my mom is going through right now because that’s the only way you can realize your actions. Please don’t do what you did to us with other because they will sue you for your actions we didn’t because we still respect you and don’t want to get in any trouble. But after seeing my mom condition today I got broken and thought to let you know that my mom is doing Badua for you I hope what that word means. She’s in so much pain. I have no words but I just have a question to you, why you did to us?

Many of us will find ourselves crossing this bridge of transition. No matter how deeply we may be hurt, nothing is more liberating and empowering than forgiving and moving through all the notions with love. In hindsight, I can say, that as painful as breakups are, they are also the greatest chance to gain real wisdom about ourselves and those around us. After a very exhaustive search for a Divorce Attorney, I chose Attorney Jason Shore and his team. Jason approached my case with respect, empathy, and compassion and understood exactly what I wanted. He communicated regularly and kept me well-informed of every detail. I cannot express how impressed and appreciative I was with his style, and how he assisted me through a very difficult process. Jason and his team are my benchmarks for legal counsel in their ability to touch the human essence and exercise professionalism. I am grateful to have had him as my Attorney and my divorce went smoothly and exactly as expected.

Don’t come to Jason unless you want 100% parenting time, want to get more than 50% of assets and want your spouse to pay your attorney fee! Jason defeated the opposing attorney big time on my case. I walked away with way more than I expected. Jason and Vanessa were not only my legal team, they were there for me emotionally as well. There were things that I didn’t know would benefit me and they helped me understand them with patience, love and care. Understanding your client’s silent needs is an art which most people lack, but Jason has definitely nailed it. Jason’s law knowledge, perseverance to reluctantly fight until he wins and his integrity is unparalleled!

I had a very good impression from Marie from the start. When I first called the office they told me she was out of town for the week but she got back to me on Sunday NIGHT to schedule a consultation. That speaks for itself. You can tell she's very dedicated and passionate about her job. The first time we talked on the phone I felt like I had taken a whole course in family law! She really knows her stuff and will explain everything in detail. She works after hours, she always replied to all my emails very fast, always kept me updated, and looked out for my best interest. Also very professional and super nice:) I HIGHLY recommend !

We can’t say enough about Marie Sarantakis, she is an outstanding attorney, and anyone would be a fool not to use her services. Marie’s legal knowledge is second to none, a memory that is unbelievable, and truly listens to her clients. She fights for her clients to the end; so much so that we called her our Pitbull. Marie and her staff are honest and up front about the true realities you will face in the Illinois family court system, and do not just tell you things you want to hear. Choosing Marie was the best decision we made to get us through our entire legal process. She treated us as family, and she will treat you as family too.

I feel so lucky to have met Jonathan A. Thorsness. He’s honest, patient, transparent and true to his word. When I met Jonathan he said , “ I love what I do.” I believe that to be true. He was very kind, answered all my questions and fees were reasonable. Jonathan let me know that my previous lawyer had charged me $3,000 for a $1227 surety bond. If you’ve ever dealt with a dishonest lawyer, you’ll know how great it is to find an honest one. I was also relieved to know that Jonathan is from a family practice that’s been around for some decades. Lillig & Thorsness is definitely a law firm that I trust. Get in touch with Jonathan Thorsness if you need a great probate lawyer or estate planner. I can’t recommend him enough. Your in good hands with Jonathan!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oak Brook, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
