If we could give Michael Biederstadt 100 stars for his excellent legal skills and services, we would. Five will have to do here for him and everyone else in his law practice. Attorney Biederstadt helped us covert our family finances into trusts that will protect our life’s wealth for our children and save them considerably in legal costs and taxes. This was all done at an affordable cost. Along the way, the Biderstadt Law Firm helped educate us about crucial issues in family law, death taxes and estate planning that everyone should know. The most important thing we learned is that even if you have a will, your estate will go through Probate Court, which in Illinois could tie up the estate in court for a year or two, incurring all sorts of attorney’s and other fees along the way. Only a trust can keep your estate out of Probate Court. The Biederstadt Law Firm also provided so many extra services, including a comprehensive, personalized portfolio that includes all essential documents organized in one convenient place. In addition, we were encouraged and enabled to include personal letters, future guidance and video messages to our children in our portfolio, which are advisable, meaningful and fun to do.

I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional legal services provided by Mike throughout my family's challenging divorce and criminal proceedings. Mike displayed unwavering dedication and treated us with genuine care and compassion. He approached our case with a level of passion and commitment that exceeded all expectations. Mike truly treated us like his own family, ensuring our voices were heard and our rights protected every step of the way. One thing that stood out about Mike was the respect he commands from everyone in the legal community. Judges, other attorneys, Guardian ad Litems—everyone he encounters holds him in high regard for his professionalism, expertise, and integrity. His reputation for doing what's right is widely recognized and respected. Mike not only guided us through the legal complexities but also provided invaluable emotional support during a difficult time. His professionalism, coupled with the respect he garners from peers and legal professionals, sets him apart in his field. I wholeheartedly recommend Mike to anyone seeking legal representation. He is not just an outstanding attorney but also a genuine advocate for his clients' well-being. We are immensely grateful for his service and the positive impact he has had on our lives.

I was referred to Mike in 2016, and I can't thank him enough for the incredible support he's provided during some of the toughest moments of my life. Dealing with a difficult legal situation involving a narcissistic ex-partner can be overwhelming, but Mike handled everything with remarkable professionalism and dedication. He truly advocated for me and my children as if we were his own family. Mike is easy to reach, highly responsive, and incredibly hardworking—a rare combination in this field. I strongly recommend him to anyone looking for someone to fight for what's right. Additionally, his paralegal Crystal is amazing! Thank you, Mike, for everything.

John began as my mother's lawyer and gave her wonderful legal and tax help, and is now our lawyer. He does great work on the legal and tax work and beyond that, has helped us through legal family decisions that require a personal wisdom, not only legal advice.

I was referred to Mr. DeLuca from a close family friend who used his services in the past. I was extremely pleased with Mr. DeLuca's professionalism in Court and how readily available he was to answer any questions I had concerning my case. I'd recommend Mr. DeLuca to anyone in the DuPage County area looking for a reliable criminal attorney who will get the job done in a timely manner and done right!

Years ago I was involved with the legal industry and worked with many major law firms in Chicago. I've also had need on occasion to hire a personal attorney. An attorney recommended Paul for my particular case in DuPage county. I have to say, Paul is awesome. A consummate professional. I would hire him again in an instant in fact, I wouldn't consider going anywhere else for a case in DuPage befitting his areas of expertise.

Paul and his staff were a great help in my legal process. They were timely and insightful throughout the entire experience and made my life as stress-free as humanly possible. In the end, I didn't even have to attend my court appearance and was extremely pleased with the results. He's not cheap, but well worth the cost.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
