I knew during my initial consultation Mr. Walters was the right man for the job. Mr. Walters didn't sugar coat anything and told me how it was. Not saying any divorce/child custody battle is easy, but my ex wife did things seasoned lawyers couldn't believe. Todd did his due diligence and was always prepared. I don't remember a single instance when Todd wasn't accessible. When you're going through a highly volatile, sensitive and emotional situation that requires guidance, accessibility is everything. I highly recommend Mr. Walters. You won't be disappointed.

Todd Walters and his assistant, Cindy Mendez of, The Walters Law Group, are a dynamic duo, the absolute dream team! I'll most importantly highlight this by recommending none other than, The Walters Law Group as your legal advocate due to their professionalism, attention to detail, prompt response time, vast knowledge, success rate and sincere care and overall concern. Significant life changes can be highly stressful, emotionally draining and even traumatic, so picking a lawyer wasn't the easiest of choices. Under pressure and in the midst of my search- a friend of mine recommended Todd Walters as, "the best divorce lawyer around!" So I picked up the phone and gave Todd a call. Immediately I felt a sense of relief, clear direction and support. Todd was candid about my situation, being upfront about the potential outcome (whether good or bad), cost and time frame it could have taken based on the details I provided. Satisfied with his transparency, I eagerly asked him to represent me and from that moment on I never felt worried again. Soon after meeting Todd, I was also introduced to his assistant Cindy Mendez, who was an absolute godsend! Ms. Mendez was so professional, kind and knowledgeable. Cindy genuinely cared about me and my best interest through and through. Every time I had a question, I would email or call her, only to receive a prompt response with answers to my questions and more relief than I could have ask for. She supported me in times of personal doubt and never made me feel I was a nuisance for my constant need for legal updates. I always felt valued as a client, so much so, I saw Cindy as a friend. In all, the process for my divorce from start to finish took 7 months, but I felt just as important on the last day as I did on the first. Pricing was reasonable and most definitely worth every penny. At our last interaction upon finalization of divorce, Todd and Cindy both reached out to me with clear and concise details of what I was to do and where I stood at that point. They gave me all the paperwork and direction I needed without ever having to ask. They both thanked me for choosing them as my legal advocates and asked me to stay in contact as they would be there if I "ever needed anything." I feel most grateful for their representation, really I don't know what I would have done without them. Please do yourself a favor and choose, The Walters Law Group for your legal needs!

I have had a great relationship with Kenny. He has helped keep our CMV drivers on the road so that they can keep providing for their families. He is a good, caring, and smart man. He is human, and very sought after, so if he should miss a court date, he would always make it right. Thank you Kenny K!

I hired Kenneth to help me fight with my speeding ticket in Addison, IL court. Everything went good except he didn't appeared on my hearing and now he don't want to refund my money. I kindly dissapointed because it was my first court in USA and I was really scared at the moment. Thank you Ken, you "made" my day.

She was fairly knowledgeable on divorce law, but did not send opposing counsel our settlement offers. She was not very well organized and became harder and harder to contact and get a response from her. Did not receive my first bill until about 45 days after I retained her and I was way over my retainer at that point.

Did not communicate, rarely answered calls , did not have details of my case correct when we were before the judge, very rude, accepted payments then said she never agreed to them and wanted to be paid in full or she would not go to court for me. Court was in 5 days. When I did manage to meet with her she didn't know why I was there and said I needed to spoon feed her. Overall do not hire her , you will end up in debt and wondering if she presented your case or someone elses to the judge.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Palos Park, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
