I was referrred to Mike by a family friend, he came highly recommended and after our first meeting I knew why. He didn’t provide any false hope, he just stuck with the cases as they meandered through the court system keeping us informed all the way through the process. He always encouraged our family to contact him with any questions but he was always thorough and succinct after each hearing. We avoided trial and as Mike suggested we entered into an agreement that reduced time away to a fraction of what the state could have dealt us. Mr. Gillespie helped us through a difficult time and I would encourage anyone to place their trust in this extremely competent attorney. I have nothing but respect and admiration for this man.

Michael Gillespie is a stand up man and the professional you need when it comes to criminal law. With his wealth of knowledge and background in criminal law, rest assured that he is your best chance. He is honest and straightforward. I truly believe he saved my brothers life and without him, my family would never be reunited with my brother again nor would he have stood a fighting chance. He has given us peace in mind and heart. More importantly, he gave my brother a second chance at life and a chance for our family to rebuild and go on with him in our lives. There is no other lawyer you want fighting for you and in your corner. Thank you Mr. Gillespie for all you have done for our family. We are forever indebted to you and what you have given us and surely could never repay you with enough credit or thanks. Just know as we will be creating new memories, we have you in our hearts to thank for the beautiful moments we wouldn't have the opportunity to treasure without you. God bless you.

Michael Gillespie handled my son's case in a most professional manner. Michael is well versed defense attorney and certainly know his way around a courtroom. He was readily available and communicative on all matters pertaining to the case. He also made himself available for any requested conferences by myself or my son. I believe Michael got my son the best results possible and would certainly recommend him to anyone seeking a seasoned criminal defense attorney.

In the summer of 2013, I was charged with attempt murder. I knew right away I wanted to hire Mr. Gillespie to represent me. I was being held at the police station and within hours of my mom calling him he came to my aid. I knew my case was going to take sometime to resolve but trusted and believed that it was going to have a positive outcome. Mr. Gillespie was very professional and informative every step of the way. He met with my family and myself to keep us all updated on my case. If you ever need some legal advise/help he is the man to call. Just a year and some months later I am back at home with my family, trying to catch up on the things that I missed and that was made possible by Mike P. Gillespie.

Following a terrible hit & run car crash, I found myself in a battle with my own auto insurance company for a reasonable settlement. I feared I'd have to hire an "ambulance chaser" type attorney at a massive firm, so I was quite relieved and pleased to find Pat Quinn through a friend. It was a pleasure to work with Pat, start to finish. He was thorough, honest, compassionate and always put my best interests first. He was always my contact, not passing me off to less experienced, lower level associates. He also exceeded my expectations with the ultimate settlement both in terms of speed and amount. I would highly recommend Pat should you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing a personal injury attorney.

I could not have been happier with both the outcome and my overall experience with Quinn Law Group. Pat Quinn is both personable and professional, and I would not hesitate to hire him again in the future. Legal matters may seem overwhelming, but Pat removed the stress from the situation and addressed my concerns promptly. After taking over correspondence with the opposing party on my behalf, Pat received a response within days after I had been attempting contact for over a month independently. The Quinn Law Group is my first recommendation to all friends and family looking for a reliable and effective attorney; I'm grateful the practice is located in our community.

I had filed an appeal in the IRS Tax Court that I no longer needed to pursue. I had searched the internet over and over trying to find out what the process was for closing my appeal. I couldn't find a clear answer. Attorney Thomas Hansen quickly and precisely answered my question and helped ease my worries. I now know what the process is, and I can move forward with confidence to resolve this issue. I greatly appreciate his expertise and help!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Park Ridge, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
