Shaun Cusack had been my lawyer for a couple car accidents over the years and did excellent work! I work in law enforcement and ended up on the other side of the law. I called Shaun, he took my case without hesitation. Shaun went over and beyond to have my case dismissed! If you want results with a dismissed verdict, Shaun Cusack is the lawyer you want on your team!!!!

I was in contract to purchase a home and the inspection yielded the discovery of active termites. I followed up with pest and structural inspections to get estimates for repairs. The repairs exceeded the $1500 threshold that provides an option for the seller to withdraw and receive earnest money back if they should choose. After deciding to cancel the contract, the seller's agent refused to acknowledge the cancellation claiming that I "obtained these estimates fraudulently." She also suggested that earnest money should not be returned to me and proceeded to slander myself and my agent. Unable to resolve this dispute I decided to hire Shaun to enforce the real estate contract as written. Shaun immediately reviewed all the pertinent details and provided me with the confidence need to resolve this dispute quickly. He began the intervention with the seller's agent providing the facts of the situation and the contract itself. After 24 hours after speaking with the seller's agent, the entire concern was dropped from their side, the cancellation had been accepted and earnest money scheduled to return. Shaun Cusack's sense of urgency, attention to detail, and application of the law are unmatched. I would recommend him every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I was wrongfully expelled from grad school for a conviction that wasn't on my record. Mr. Cusack represented me in both cases with the utmost : professionalism, diligence, and care. Mr. Cusack puts his clients first he is upfront, honest, and realistic. He is strives to do what is right, and will not stop until he gets the best outcome for his client. I would highly recommend Mr. Cusack for any: personal injury, criminal defense, or workers compensation.

Shaun was very helpful, considering and caring to what I was dealing with at a young age being taking advantage of by a former boss. He helped me out tremendously and I could never say thank you enough for how much he helped me of what was a nightmare. He won my case, did a lot of research on other cases to compare to my situation and was already prepared when we consulted about the issue. Shaun generally cares and I am forever thankful.

The first thing I noticed about Shaun was his confidence. He was personable and relateable. I had questions, he had time for answers. He told me not to worry, so I didn't! He is hardworking and determined and he cared about my case. Who doesn't want these qualities in a lawyer?! I would recommend him in a heartbeat, and have recommended him. You won't be sorry. Complete confidence!

I have retained the services of Brian Johnson for several business matters over the past 3 years. He has perfomed above my expectations in every matter. Although I know several attorneys throughout Central Illinois, his personal attention and approachability is very refreshing especially in unsettling matters which is normallly the case in legal matters. I also recommend Brian's services to many of my clients for their business needs.

I have referred a number of clients to Brian who needed advice on land purchases and establihing businesses. Every one has thanked me and complimented Brian on his knowledge, professionalism and promptness. I participated in a presentation with Brian on the legal and financial considerations for new business owners. He was extremely well prepared and kept the information simple enough to be understood by the audience.

Mr Tinker helped me out a few years ago with a patent and a couple trademarks. easy, no sweat, right? I'm certain many others would have helped me with my "easy, no sweat" filing, but Mr Tinker did more than that. He called me up and explained a concern he had with some language in my filing that he felt didn't protect my interests as well as he felt it should. I was confident that my wording was superior and protected me from any infringements. He very politely explained how my branding had an application in an area that I had not thought of and won me over. As he stated (paraphrasing, of course), "the chances you will end up needing this additional protective language is remote, but it won't even take me ten minutes. So why don't I just do it anyway?" Well now three years later, I’ve expanded my branding and launched into the area he identified and others. Had he not cared enough to critically think about all possibilities, I would be filing expensive updates every year or so. But he took care of me and his original work stands unchanged and undefeated (I had an infringement and I won, no sweat). I came to this site to find him now to help me with another trademark, but have learned that he went in-house for a major international company. Makes sence, he is of that caliber

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Peoria, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
