In October 2023, I retained the Watson Law Firm to represent me in my complex divorce/custody/OP case. I am immensely grateful for their expertise, support, and the profound positive impact they had on my life and the lives of my three children. Linda was recommended to me by someone familiar with her reputation for uncovering the truth and achieving justice. During our initial consultation, her approach, though initially surprising, proved to be exactly what I needed. Her strategic and methodical approach helped me manage my emotions and articulate the facts clearly. As someone who is neurodivergent, I especially appreciated Linda's understanding and insight into ADHD and its impact on my children and me. Her guidance was transformative, helping me rediscover my identity and sense of self. Throughout the case, Linda's team was consistently available, supportive, and informative. I want to particularly acknowledge Ashley, the paralegal on my case, for her exceptional professionalism, empathy, and understanding. Linda's unwavering dedication was truly remarkable. Even while out of the country, she remained a fierce advocate for my rights as a father, tirelessly fighting for the best possible outcome for my family. The Watson Law Firm's commitment extended beyond the finalization of the case. When a new, urgent concern arose shortly after the case concluded, Linda and her team responded immediately, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to protecting my children. I am deeply thankful for the Watson Law Team's hard work, compassion, and expertise. They made an incredibly difficult situation bearable, and I am confident that I would not have achieved such a positive outcome without their representation. I wholeheartedly recommend the Watson Law Firm to anyone in need of a family law attorney who is not only knowledgeable and experienced but also genuinely cares about their clients and the pursuit of justice.

So glad that Dr. Linda Watson’s office is also operating in Chicago now! She made my life so much easier when sitting down, explaining to me all sorts of situations around my case and dedicatedly working on it. One day I was terrified; the next day I was relieved. I was just upset I didn’t know her before, and spent so many nights awake thinking that my case was unsolvable! Surely not for her. Dr. Lisa Regan also followed me case and kindly helped me with all necessary instructions. Thank you all!

Not sure why my review got removed but I’m gonna go again. Do not choose this place if you are looking for a lawyer who wants what’s in your best interests. They will suck you dry and they keep tabs on how many phone calls / emails you send - they will rack the charges up it’s nothing to them. I went through 6-7 months with Gabby Cunningham and she never once acted as if she was doing any of this work for me. I have emails of her telling me that this case is in the best interests of my child and not me - IM PAYING YOU 10,000 TO DO WORK ON MY INTERESTS. These ladies don’t mind telling you to “suck it up and let things soak in because this is how things will be for the rest of time” once I got that email from gabby I immediately dropped her as my lawyer. Here I am 7 months later, with an attorney who cares about me and has won me my custody case. After being told there was nothing I could do and to sit back and lose time with a child I had for 4 years on the same schedule, I’ve prospered and now I get to see my daughter just as much as i always have. I’m down 10,000 after dealing with this law firm and I would advise everyone to look elsewhere as they only care about themselves!

I recently had a customer who failed to pay and also made false accusations on me and my company. I called mike Lied with (Howard and Howard) and he immediately put me in touch with Noah Menold. Noah has went out of his way In helping me with this case. Not to mention, I have worked with two others from the same firm and they all deserve a 5 star rating.

I found Yolanda Riley from reading The Weekly Traveler. She helped me navigate 2 separate legal issues. She is very professional, responds almost immediately, and most of all, honest. She was able to move both cases seamlessly and with great integrity. I plan to use her services again in the future. Dewayne

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Peoria, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
