Jordan and the firm he works for represented me in a labor dispute with a former employer. He kept me informed throughout the process offering sound legal advice and helped me through a difficult time! His positive approach backed with extensive legal knowledge was a winning combination! I found him and his firm easy to work with having my best interest at heart. If you find yourself looking for a legal team you can trust, I would highly recommend Jordan and the firm of Griffin / Williams LLP to anyone who needs great legal representation!

Jordan is a very knowledgeable attorney. He was able to have a case against me dismissed after he pierced the other attorney's lawsuit. Jordan is also a very personable and responsive person to work with.

We dealt with Jordan in resolving a particularly difficult fraud case. There were a number of parties involved, all pointing fingers at each other. Jordan kept us informed of all of the issues; he kept us confident that eventually results would happen as everything got sorted out while it dragged on. In the end, Jordan and his firm came through, just as he explained would likely happen. I would highly recommend him for his professionalism, his great communication skills, and getting results.

You could not ask for a better attorney to represent your and your children's best interest. She is extremely fair and practical. I have had two other attorneys before Ms. Mosser and she is hands down the best!!! You cannot go wrong by hiring this attorney. I also must mention that she truly cares about her clients and children. She is not only a fantastic lawyer, but genuinely a good person, a rare find!

I was referred to a different attorney by a friend who turned out not to practice divorce or family law and he referred me to Jamie Mosser who does as well as many other practices. This is without a doubt the best phone call I have made. I had gone through two other attorneys and spent tens of thousands of dollars unfortunately battling my ex-wife over many issues one of which is just spending more time with my son. Carbary and Nave both were not looking out for my best interest I don't know which one is actually the worst of the two, I dealt with the latter for most of the time and my ex-wife seem to be beating me at every turn and trying to make it so expensive to continue my relationship with my son that I would quit, that never would have happened. Since I hire Jamie a lot has changed I have increased time with my son and many of the falsities my ex-wife claimed have been seen by the judge to be untrue. I am extremely grateful for everything that she has done for me and would highly highly recommend her to anybody, she goes above and beyond for her clients and truly does care. Something that is very difficult to find!

After firing, an attorney who cared more about my exes rights rather than my rights a friend referred me to Phil. He handled my case, professionally and quickly. He was very knowledgeable and helped me put some finality to a difficult negotiation. I highly recommend him.

Phil's name came highly recommended to me from one who has been in the legal system for many years and who has worked with hundreds of lawyers. I was told that Phil is one of the best and is great to work with. All of this has been true. I completely agree--Phil and his office have been outstanding in their service, very personable, and helpful in a system that can be quite difficult to navigate. He was well-prepared, knowledgeable, and has a lot of experience working with all kinds of family divorce and separation situations.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Saint Charles, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
