Jessica took my case in March 2016 at $375 an hour. It was very difficult getting her to reply to emails. She at times didn't show up to court and didn't submit my paperwork that I made sure to get her including my parenting class paperwork. Judge questioned why I didn't take it and she then asked me and I of course told her I took it months ago, passed and sent her the certificate. I never got child support or maintenance. I let her go and hired a new lawyer. The day before the divorce was to be granted, my husband dismissed the divorce, quit his 20 year good paying job and removed our entire marital savings only he had control of. This all happened because Jessica didn't file a counter petition. When I wrote asking why...her reply was I could have filed one myself. I had no idea what a counter petition was and I was paying her to legally protect me with her law degree. Please consider any other law firm other then this one in my opinion. I'm still not divorced. 2 1/2 year divorce with not much to argue about....a retirement account(he removed) and a pension and a 17 year old son who an adult now. Anyone wanting to discuss legal issues with her, please contact me. Tyblossom on aol.

My ex wife is what people call “helicopter mom.” She would not let me see my daughter. She accused me of ridiculous thigs and asked for 100% of any decision-making because I cannot be trusted. From the very beginning Fedor Kozlov told me that it would be a fight and he took the case to the trial. Everyone was against me, including the child representative. I think that he won trial. I have shared custody now and I see my baby every week. Highly recommended!

After a year and half of being with another firm during my terrible divorce and very little progress, I made a decision to change the law firm and hired Law Office of Fedor Kozlov. This ended up being the BEST decision I could have made. I reached out to Law Office of Fedor Kozlov at the point where my case was hopeless. Mr. Kozlov and his team are amazing group of lawyers with high professional knowledge, experience and personal respect for a client. They fought for me as if I was a member of their family, while being very conscious of my financials and using time and money in MOST efficient way. They protected me from unnecessary drama, and ALWAYS kept me posted about my case. Mr. Kozlov is smart, honest, reliable lawyer with strong negotiation skills, great communication skills and most importantly - he will get the job done without wasting your money and time! Another lawyer in practice, Kendall Monson, fought in court for me on more than one occasion and was able to turn around the case in my favor several times. Both Fedor Kozlov and Kendall Monson were able to change the outcome of my divorce, which seemed closed to impossible. They are more than just very experienced and educated professionals; they are best People that you can absolutely trust. Thank you all for hard work and emotional support!!

Out of pure revenge my ex filed fraudulent chargers against me accusing of child abuse. DCFS became involved. This was a nightmare. Before I hired Kozlov, I consulted with at least three other lawyers. Kozlov showed a good knowledge of the law and understanding of the procedure. It was very important to me to know everything that was going on in court and Kozlov kept me informed every step of the way. This hell is over and I have my child back. He is not cheap but Kozlov chargers only for actual work. Not BS chargers like travel time. He keeps his word. If you work with him he will get you the result.

Jason Pappas is an excellent lawyer. He is very familiar with the intricacies of the law and--perhaps more importantly--he genuinely cares about his clients' best interests. Jason's rates are extremely reasonable, and once you hand over your case to him, you can be confident that you are in good hands.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Schaumburg, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
