I truly enjoyed working with Ben Schneider to get the job done where other’s were just getting out of the starting block. A sound and solid legal firm with a sound solution and an legal approach that makes sense on the legal front. Ben was highly successful in closing our family case so I can now focus on getting back with family and friends. Thanks Ben. God bless.

Ben Schneider is untrustworthy, unprepared, unreliable. In early December 2022 I entered a request for an estate attorney in the American Bar Association’s website to search for a lawyer. Ben responded right away. I didn’t feel comfortable talking with him, felt like high pressure sales, but he sounded knowledgeable so I decided to have him prepare my will for $2500. Over the next month or so we communicated via phone and email to finalize details of my will. On January 12th 2023 we agreed to meet at his office in Schaumburg to sign and notarize the documents. I paid $2500 via credit card. When I got there he called to say he’d be half an hour late. His “office “ was the conference room in an office complex. He forgot to renew his notary public stamp and had to borrow someone else’s in the reception area. After looking over the documents there were a few minor details with the format of the trust that I asked him to correct, he assured me he would make the changes and have the final copy for me in a week. A week later I emailed him and he said he’d have it ready soon. That was the last I heard from him. I subsequently sent 2 more emails over a period of 5 weeks with no response from him. Not knowing what else to do, I disputed the $2500 credit card charge that I used to pay him. About 2 weeks later on Sunday Ben leaves me 2 phone messages and calls me a third time in a panic. He claimed he didn’t see any of my emails. I don’t believe him. At this point I should have just fired him. He pleads with me to reinstate his payment on my credit card. He apologized repeatedly and said he’d bring the documents over in the afternoon. He then calls a couple hours later and said he forgot his office is locked on Sunday and he couldn’t get in his office. He brings the documents on Monday. He says he’s open to any “tweaks “ on the trust. And to call him instead of emailing. I called him twice next week for a clarification in the trust. He argued with me and didn’t want to do the change. I explained my brother also wanted it done and he finally did it. A few weeks later I had another question concerning the name of one of my trustees. I’ve called and left 5 messages, no response. Ben Schneider is only interested in your money, had I not disputed my credit card charge I wonder if, or when I would have heard from him again.Ben Schneider is the worst! DO NOT use him!

Scott was recommended to me by a friend. More than once he was very helpful at resolving condo association situations. So when it was time to sell, I hired him with confidence. He was super efficient, prompt, responsive. He gave me the confidence that things are handled right! And he explains complicated legal matter in an easy to understand way. Also, he was very patient with my case that offered a few twists. I highly recommended him for any of your real estate transactions!

We have been using the services of Dennis Delman for over 40 years and he has gotten us through everything from teenage kid troubles to taking care of situations we have gotten in by unscrupulous people. We thank our lucky stars the day his name was given to us by mutual friends because he has become a friend who is always kind, professional, unpretentious, knowledgeable and a gentleman. We would heartily recommend him as the BEST at what he does !!!

We retained the services of Attorney Dennis Delman to represent our interest in a complicated real estate transaction during the height of the pandemic and was very impressed and pleased with his ability to get through the red tape of purchasing a short sale/foreclosed property in timely manner. I highly recommend Dennis Delman as a polite experienced attorney, always putting the client first and educating you throughout the process. If I ever need an attorney again I will be calling Mr. Delman!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Skokie, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
