Kim Talken is representing me in my divorce. I never imagined I would be going through this less than 2 years after my daughter was born but I am. There are several things I have learned in this process, and it's not just legal stuff. First.... any attorney can go through the motions of filing paperwork and figuring out child support. The court has a standard form for a divorce, and child support is based on a formula. The court also has a cut and paste form for a parenting plan. Simply fill out these forms and you can be divorced, and you get what the court decides. You can go that route, but I don't recommend it. Divorce is not black and white like thedocuments that are filed. When you get divorced you will make decisions that are best for you and your ex will do the same. Then it's time to figure out what's best for the kids (you can't take care of anyone without taking care of yourself) You need a lawyer who understands that. A lawyer who has the experience to know that winning is about fighting for what's important to you, not about bashing your ex. That's Kim. She asks you in the consultation what winning looks like. What's important. And what's important to you becomes important to her. She won't take up a fight she can't win, but will fight like hell for the ones she can win. A good lawyer knows the difference. A good lawyer won't let you spend time and money on a bunch of stuff you won't win. It not only angers judges but it's expensive, and Kim does her absolute best to control costs while fighting for what's right. My case is still ongoing, and my ex claims to have spent 15,000 dollars so far... I've spent 3500. My case has started ugly, and gotten uglier, she has always been the professional. I'm sure I have upset her in this process, I know I have dropped stuff on her at the last minute (unfortunately we can't always control that) but it was all taken in stride, and handled like it was her emergency too. I'm not sure how my case is going to work out.. winning for me is seeing my daughter as much as possible while living out of state. If I lose it's going to be because of my situation, not because we are out worked, or under prepared. If you have to go through a divorce and i pray you don't..... hire a lawyer that cares.
