There really is no words to explain what an exceptional lawyer Dan is. Little history on my story/experience with Dan; I was dealing with a case with a different lawyer that did an awful job. I then came into probation violation and it was a very complicated case where I had technically 4 violations. A warrant was set out for me. I was allowed to move to another state for school and the court was going to take me back to Illinois. It seemed truly like a case that NO WAY I could win. But then Dan did his thing. Dan not only was able to SQUASH my no bond warrant, he was able to let me stay in the state I reside in currently AND got me off of probation and under supervision instead! I have no clue how he was able to do so much but he made it work. And having dealt with a bad lawyer I really know the difference between a good and bad one. When we deal with court it’s scary. You want a lawyer that will respond fast, give their all to defend you and try to get the best outcome possible, and one that gives you RESPECT. Dan did all of these things and I can’t thank him enough. If I had to return to Illinois I would have lost my school, apartment, job and I would most likely have been living out of a car and really losing all the goods I have in my life out here in the state I reside in. If you are in need of a good lawyer, trust me, if Dan could do this much for my case, he is definitely the lawyer you want by your side and will give you his all to help you. Thank you so much Dan!!!

I highly recommend Dan. He recently helped me with two separate matters and we had a successful outcome on both. Dan and Steve (his law partner) worked together and did a great job at keeping me informed throughout the process. The prices were very reasonable. I hope I don't ever need them again but if I something comes up, Steve and Dan will be the first ones I will call.

"Dan is the BEST of the BEST". He got us the BEST POSSIBLE Outcome. Working with Dan was awesome. Without going into specifics, I would like to say just one sentence. "Dan is the BEST of the BEST". Do not take my word on this internet, just go and meet him once and you will see for yourself. Dan knows everyone in the system. He is very easy to talk to. I have interviewed a dozen attorneys before meeting Dan. Immediately decided to go with Dan. Steve is super awesome. During the initial parts, Steve took care of me (when Dan had to attend other things). I cant write my specific topic and details due to privacy concerns but I just want to describe how I found Dan. I read all the reviews on internet and decided to go meet in person. Jennifer answered my call and setup a quick appointment with Dan for same day; arrived on time and met both Dan & Steve. Steve was supposed to head out to something but it was very nice of him to stay back till I had presented my details. Just go & meet them, if you need to hire an attorney!!!! You will thank yourselves. It is really unfortunate for anyone to be searching for an attorney and there are many many attorneys that want to prey on the weaknesses and take advantage of the situation. But Dan is not into that stuff. He is genuine, compassionate and caring. He explains everything in a simple manner and waits to answer all your questions with patience and empathy. One great advantage is, Dan and Steve are a team of two, For the initial rounds, they will make sure one of them attend the dates and take care of you. Wish the Best of Regards to Dan and Steve!!!!!

My mom was in a car/pedestrian mishap that occurred in a retail parking lot in 2019. We live in different parts of the country, and when I got the phone call I knew it was bad and that she had a long road to recovery. I chose the law firm of Salvi,Schostok & Pritchard on a recommendation and my mom's case was given to Jennifer Ashley. From the beginning she was on top of everything for my mom including getting her transferred out of the hospital to rehab, and making sure all of the bills associated with the accident were taken care of. She was responsive when my mom or I had questions or concerns. It really pays to hire someone experienced like Jennifer and can make a terrible thing like an accident so much easier to deal with. If you are looking for someone with experience who handles everything from start to finish choose Jennifer Ashley.

Jennifer Ashley is an extremely organized and well-trained plaintiff's personal injury at a very prestigious Chicago law firm. She fights very hard for her clients, maximizes the strengths, and minimizes the weaknesses of all of her cases with her hard work, dedication and savvy. She has many years of quality experience and her excellence is bolstered by the fact that she spent many years of her career on the defense side before switching to the plaintiff's side. I would recommend her to anyone seeking a qualified attorney for a personal injury lawsuit.

Jenny Valsamas had our families well being in her hands. She listened to me, trusted me every step of the way. (12 months of custody and removal from Illinois battle.) She always put the well being of my three children first and kept her sites, reminding me often of our long term goal of removing my children from the state. She providing priceless service at an affordable price. Her office staff were always helpful and managed my case excellent. Jenny kept me informed always; not only M-F 9-5 but 24/7. Even after I was awarded custody and moved from the state she accepted my calls for advice on moving the parenting agreement to the new state. If I called today, she would still help me. She was the reason I have my family and my children have the good life they have today.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Waukegan, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
