I can truly say that Attorney PieRina Infelise works with integrity, accuracy, and most of all compassion. I was 30 days away from adopting a child I had for two and a half years to only be falsely accused of child abused. Attorney PieRina was very detailed about finding the truth and presenting it to the judge with all the facts. Thank God for her due diligence I won my case! Thank you Attorney PieRina Infelise for all the hard work you've done. Truly grateful, Cindy Walker

Rina is an exceptional and extremely knowledgeable lawyer. You will be in excellent hands by hiring Rina. She is a powerhouse of an attorney with an impressive legal mind. She will treat you with respect; compassion and kindness. I will be forever grateful to have found, met and hired Rina. She was a God sent to help me thru one of the most stressful periods of my life. Rina defended and won my case against DCFS, where I was wrongly accused of child neglect. Rina confidently and successfully fought the case all the way into the appeal process. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Rina for your invaluable expertise and tireless work. I could not be happier with the outcome and highly recommend Rina!

Pros
1
Excellent communication and responsiveness
“Bill always responded promptly to their requests and statements, yet he always would have to go back, sometimes several times to get their responses. In other words, Bill doesn't drag his feet, he gets after it!!”
2
Proactive and thorough approach
“Bill told me to try and keep my emotions out of the fact finding. The judge doesn't care!!! It was good advice!! Bill also said that if I were able to collect and organize certain material, it would save me considerable money.”
3
Highly experienced and knowledgeable
“At our divorce hearing, Bill showed up and went through every document in a thorough manner, and we were ready to attest.”
4
Compassionate and supportive
“He took an emotional situation on my part and talked me down from overreacting and probably costing myself a ton of additional attorney fees.”
5
Delivers excellent results
“Bill provided me with the best outcome I could possibly hope for! I was extremely excited about the outcome and the cost of his expertise.”
Cons
1
Persistent and prolonged cases
“Joe O'Brien is a money hungry lawyer. Runs the classic game of running your case as long as possible to run up your bill.”
2
Potential lack of empathy for clients
“Joe is by far one of the best attorneys i have ever hired for any legal matter , he is quick on responses , in the courtroom he is a bull and takes charge, so If you want the job don't right and promptly you need to hire Joe unless you like sleepless nights.”

We were denied claim by a public and fortune 500 insurance company, suffering hundreds of thousands of dollars in casualty loss. Chris was able to find key points that the insurance company had failed to follow. He was patient with us, and very compassionate. Communications were very prompt and clear. After nearly 4 years (partially due to COVID delays), we were able to get reasonable settlement close to our damages. We strongly recommend Chris to help with any insurance-related cases.

I hired Elizabeth earlier this year and I have no reservations about praising the quality of her work. She is highly professional in every sense of the word. She was completely dedicated to my case and she was able to actually obtain MORE than I had expected in my divorce settlement! I was impressed with the way she stood up for me in court and how she would never back down from a fight. I give her my highest rating and would recommend her to anyone.

When I was going through perhaps the toughest time of my life, Elizabeth was there for me. She always promptly responded to me including in the evenings and weekends when she was not in the office. She honestly told me what my options were even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear because she knew I needed to make an informed decision.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wheaton, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
