Never personally hired dan but consulted with him on certain advise. Had several conversations over the phone and in person, He never once ignored my phone calls or failed to return a call. Very informative and knowlagable and will take the time to make sure you fully understand the situation. I have unfortunately had to deal with several lawyers in my past and regret not having found dan sooner! I have my lawyer for life now!

This man has went above and beyond my expectations , 10 pm he offers to clear up all my questions in a matter of minutes just by me calling. He explained everything in detail and in a way I could understand easily. He offered way more than one quick answer, he explained all options and scenerios. He even said if I had any other questions to just keep his number and give a call. My husband also is needing advice and has questions and he extended the same offer. Very positive experience and will continue to deal with him in the future, very impressive.

Mr. Collins is an extraordinary attorney. He went above and beyond to help me with my case. He returned calls promptly and answered questions about the law in a way that was easy to understand. As he walked me through the court process, he always appeared confident and well prepared in the courtroom, looking out for MY best interest. He defiantly showed that he has experience, knowledge, and was dedicated to high standards.

I got in touch with Renae 2 years ago when I was in the market searching for an attorney to file my EB1A. I consulted a few attorneys, out of which few said I won't succeed in EB1A and a few didn't give me a good vibe. Renae was the only one who gave me comprehensive feedback and a good vibe, hence I decided to go ahead with her a year ago. Getting an approval for a profile which has high standards or an award already isn't a big deal since any attorney can get it approved, but the one where a profile is actually built up to get to the EB1A standards and have it approved is the real success which shows how competent the attorney is, Renae is one of those highly competent EB1A attorney. A few things which sets her apart from the rest is that she thinks outside of the box, she is fully involved and doesn’t solely rely on paralegals, she answers all queries comprehensively, and a client isn’t just a number or case file, she actually cares about the client and the client’s success. She has EB1A expertise and is well aware of exactly what the USCIS officers are looking for, she got my EB1A-APPROVED in premium. I was very much stressed right after filing, worrying about getting RFE because I have heard that premium filing triggers a RFE most of the time, but getting a straightaway approval in premium in 8 working days from the toughest service center completely blew me away and clearly shows without a doubt that Renae is an expert when it comes to EB1A. I highly recommend her for EB1A, EB2-NIW, O1A. I'd also like to thank her paralegal - Ingrid, who was always on top of things and also contributed to my case. Thank you Renae, you made the rest of my life comfortable, else I'd have been stuck in a decade long backlog to get a green card.

Renae and her team regained us a lost legal status which seemed to me impossible to do. She's always deeply profound in building your case. Renae has never missed even small and important detail. And as a result of Renae's professionalism, our family was approved as permanent residents. Thank you Renae so much for it. We do appreciate your job!

Renae and her team are extremely professional, kind and get the job done. If anyone is looking for help with immigration, Renae has my highest recommendation. Look no further and work with Renae and her equally awesome team. She will look at your case in detail, explain the options and alternatives and strategically approach the response with complete transparency. I am glad I found her and am extremely satisfied with how my case was handled. 5 stars are not enough.. :)

Wendy did a wonderful job. She is very knowledgable in all aspects of family law and is deeply compassionate and understanding. She truly cares about her clients. Wendy handles herself with the utmost professionalism, even in some of the most challenging situations. If she is handling your divorce matter, know that you are in good hands. She did a wonderful job with my financial settlement negotiations along with dealing extremely well with a challenging opposing attorney. Thank you Wendy for putting your clients at ease and for making a challenging and emotional situation run smooth.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wheaton, Illinois?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
