Filed for a divorce after 30 years of marriage, in 2012. Divorce granted 2013. But just try to get the 50/50 property! OMG. Mr. Hess was missing for over a year and never returned my calls. I was frantic. I trusted him. Even though the decree says the ex must pay for any additional fees thru exs actions - this did not happen. The divorce came to over $20,000 for me. I was told since the ex did not include a pension - we would go after the total amount and ex would have to pay lawyer/court fees for that. Ex claimed ignorance. (I agreed to my half - yet mediation was ordered anyway.) It is now 2018 -- and my bill is now OVER $14,000. My lawyer didn't have a "smoking gun" to prove that ex knew about the other pension. Why didn't he tell me this? And avoid all the time and MONEY of going thru mediation??? I AGREED TO THE TERMS BEFORE THE MEDIATION. Hess never ever listened to me. I now owe OVER $12000. Like I said, I trusted this man to make the right decision for me. I was a stay at home mom. I am older. I have NO real job experience. I can NOT find a decent job anywhere. I received my 2002 car, NOTHING from the house - even though there was some listing in the decree -- and a very very VERY costly attorney fee. My ex's fees came to about $8000. Be careful who you hire!! Don't be a dummy like me. Good Luck

Stay away from this law firm!! Don't hire Mr Hess for any of your family courts needs. This man charges 325 dollars an hour, the most expensive lawyer in lake county. He claims you can use his paralegals for 175 an hour. Well his paralegals and secretaries will do nothing to help you. They will blow you off and make excuses for Mr Hess. I paid this man a 5000 dollar retainer and he did not do one thing agreed upon. I had two meeting with this man to form an action plan. He offer and said he was going to do everything under the sun. Not ONE thing he stated did he do. He refuses to give you his email or phone number, yet hides behind his secretaries I had 6 emails unanswered, 7 phone called un returned. Two occasions I was ignored because he was to busy with another client and had no respect to call to inform me. Now I sit here with court tomorrow, nothing drafted up that we agree upon. All I have is a non legally binding letter to opposing counsel for a minor issue I could care less about. The only reason I have this letter is because he called my house at 10pm with nothing done he was instructed on. He offered this letter up because he did NOTHING!!! I have done this for ten years, my ex is psychotic I know the whole drill. I fight for my child's safety. Move on to the next lawyer website ASAP. You will get burned at Sachs&Hess!! My experience is women are better lawyers in the lake county juvenile court system.

I dont know which lawyer I spoke with bc I was on the phone. THE MAN WAS HORRIBLE! I called them bc I was kinda pricing out a good family law attorney. Not only did he judge my actions without knowing the whole story but he also asked me why I haven't done something sooner. I told him that I couldn't afford to get a lawyer. BUT when I asked him what his price would be he told me $4000 (I asked him if he could take payments) and told me I would have to have it all up front b4 he would start the procedure. HONESTLY don't ask me why I havent been able to do this sooner and then say "Well I wont be able to help til the money is all there" LAWYERS LIKE THIS ARE MORE WORRIED ABOUT MONEY THAN FAMILIES IN NEED! I hope this helps anyone looking for a family law attorney. This firm might have good lawyers (I dont know bc this was the only expirence) but whats the point of having a good FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY if the botttom line is not protecting the family.

Andrew Martin has been my attorney for the past 5 years. He has gone above and beyond for me in my divorce. When my ex husbands attorney tried to belittle me and push her way, he fought back for my kids and I. He has always been honest and to the point. If I had questions or concerns no matter how big or small, he was there with the answers in a timely manner. When my ex found out the law firm I hired, he was very upset and told me "that's who I was going to hire!". I recommend Andrew Martin to anyone I know going through a divorce! He's the best in the NWI area, contrary to what others my say!!

Andrew Martin was my attorney that I hired to represent me in a dispute I had with the Hammond police department and the city of hammond. It was very frustrating working with him because he told me that he believes i i have a case against the police and that he believes my rights had been violated. Every part of my complaint was captured on video. It was an open and shut case. He told me that he didn't want to file a lawsuit but wanted to write a letter to the police department and ask for compensation for my rights being violated. A month later I recieved a certified letter from him telling me he has dropped my case and recommend that I find a new lawyer because the police claims no wrong doing in my case. To me it was very unprofessional for him to drop my case without so much as a simple phone call to me or to the police department. How can any lawyer tell a person that his rights were violated and that they have a lawsuit but then drop them as a client? I was a long time customer of this law firm since 1993. My parents also used this law firm in the 1990's when they were located in Hammond. I can't speak on the rest of the people in that law firm but I certainly would not recommend Andrew Martin to represent anyone. It's really says something when the law firm has only two reviews and both are negative and both about the same lawyer. I was willing to sign over 1/3 of a settlement to this lawyer and all he was going to do was write a letter. I didn't mind because my past experience with this firm and the integrity of its name was solid. Now I know that Sachs & Hess is not the law firm it use to be. There are hundreds of lawyers out there and Andrew Martin is not one I would ever recommend.

Horrible! Andrew Martin, what a joke. Unfortunately I thought I was hiring from a great law firm (as they describe themselves) truly not the case. Andrew explained to me how everything was in my favor. My ex husband took me to court to have me thrown out of the house! That went in my favor however it was all downhill from there. I had no idea what I was doing (you expect your lawyer to have your back). Andrew Martin did NOT show me paperwork about finances or the appraisal on the house until I thought to ask for them which unfortunately was after the divorce was final. The financial's were wrong, I have no idea where those numbers came from. I did NOT have that much money in my account (we had separate checking accounts, same bank) this is also when I found out how much money was being put into other accounts at a different bank. At the divorce is when Andrew changed into a completely different person and told me this is how it is! The day before the divorce is when he called me into his office to talk TO me about making a list of things I wanted from the house, proceeds to say "are you going to leave anything". Btw my ex works at Ford Motor Co. and gets free legal through the union, I ended up having to pay the bill for "my attorney". Could go on but....hopefully this is enough to let you know I was swindled by my attorney as much as I was by my ex husband!
