The typical "money hungry" lawyer that has rubbed off on his staff. All we needed were two consent forms mailed out for a guardianship where all parties already are in agreement to the terms of the guardianship (for a 13 year old boy whose mother died and now his father is terminally ill). We already had the parental consent, petition, and order ready to be filed - we just didn't know we had to have sibling consent forms.
He charged $100 for the 15 minute consultation and made me wait 45 minutes to see him after my scheduled time
Already in a vulnerable situation, this guy tells me he should be able to get it done for $1,100.00. He charges $200/hour. Apparently, he thinks it will take 10.5 hours to send out two letters and deliver the documents to the court.
I called back immediately after our 15 minute consultation. The woman who answered the phone questioned why I would want the information after just speaking with him - I said it was because I did not understand something he said. He did not call me back. I called him back on day three. Once again, his receptionist was very rude to me but finally put Paul on the phone.
I asked if I could save money by sending out the consent forms myself. His reply was, "Look, you've already mucked this up enough. You need to just let me do my job". This guy has a major problem with his ego and needs to come back down to reality. I have no idea how he stays in business treating people this way, but I'm sure he and his secretary must live pretty miserable lives to treat people with such hate and rudeness.
End of story: I had FREE consultations with two other attorneys who do guardianship's (one in Hendricks County and one in Marion County). I was told by both they could get it done for $500.00, even if they have to make an appearance (because we have already done everything else - like parental consent, typed up final order, etc).
Bottom line, it's guys like this that give attorneys a bad name.
