Last year I was involved in a head on crash where the other driver went left of center and hit me head on. A few months past, I contacted Chester Law Office. My experience with Chester Law was great! They made everything easy / smooth and their communication was great. They were very polite, honest, and straight to the point. If anything like this ever would to happen to me again, I would work with Chester Law again in a heart beat. I recommend working with Chester Law due to their honesty, integrity, professionalism, communication, time management, and more. Thank you Chester Law Office!

Over the course of months, our estate attorney Laura Ezzell walked us through each step to fulfill all legal requirements. We had complex issues like an internal sale of the house to an heir and it was seamless thanks to Laura. We had complete peace of mind and consistent communication to reach a successful conclusion.

I was in a car accident in 2023 and it was a first for me. I got T-boned and I truly had no idea how to go about things but thought I could do it on my own. Until I realized I couldn't and even tho they didn't have to, Chester Law took on my case, even though was about month or so after trying to deal with it myself. Words can never truly explain how much I appreciate them for the help and helping me to deal with the headache and stress the other insurance was giving me. They were so helpful with it all and answered any and all questions i ever had. I can be nothing but thankful that Chester Law was there to help. Truly from the bottom of my heart thank you. I will definitely recommend to others in need.

Luke Krizek was my lawyer for a child support case. I was paying for Daycare all on my own, therefore the child support amount needed to be highered. Mr. Krizek advised me well, and with his help and support, I got what I wanted. Mr. Krizek has amazing analytical skills, and he is very creative when unique situations arose. He was very responsive. When I had questions about my case, he would get ahold of me in a timely manner. Mr. Krizek has remarkable speaking skills. In the court room he always spoke clearly and concisely. It is most important that he cared about my situation. He understood that paying $242 a week for daycare was almost impossible for a woman like me who is going to school full time, working as a waitress, and all the while having a baby that needs provided for. If I ever need a lawyer, Luke Krizek is my choice.

I needed an attorney for my son and my sister suggested Mr. Wilson as she had hired him to represent my nephew before. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Wilson Concerning a situation with my son he was straightforward he didn't sugar coat anything. He explained things to me in layman's terms so that I could understand Exactly what he was saying and as it turned out it was just as he said. He didn't require a fee for the consultation either. Now what made me turn to him once again was this, even though we didn't hire him the 1st time he called and asked how my son came out with his situation that alone was a plus his concern for people. He listens, he takes notes and when you leave his office you leave with the confidence that he is going to do everything possible for your love one . It's visible he is passionate about his work. Giving his all and righting as many wrongs as possible within our community judicial system .Thank you Mr. Wilson .

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Elkhart, Indiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
